For a head of state to visit the White House and not pose for photographers is rare. For a key ally to be left to his own devices while the President withdraws to have dinner in private was, until this week, unheard of.
Yet that is how Binyamin Netanyahu was treated by President Obama on Tuesday night, according to Israeli reports on a trip seen in Jerusalem tonight as a disastrous humiliation.
After failing to extract a written promise of concessions on Jewish settlements, Mr Obama walked out of his meeting with Mr Netanyahu but invited him to stay at the White House, consult with advisors and “let me know if there is anything new”, a US congressman who spoke to the Prime Minister said today.
“It was awful,” the congressman said. One Israeli newspaper called the meeting “a hazing in stages”, poisoned by such mistrust that the Israeli delegation eventually left rather than risk being eavesdropped on a White House phone line. Another said that the Prime Minister had received “the treatment reserved for the President of Equatorial Guinea”.

The line, “He who blesses Israel will be blessed and he who curses Israel will be cursed” is not in the Bible at all. That phrase is a misinterpretation of one verse, Genesis 12:3. In Genesis 12:3, God said to Abraham, “I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you, and in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed.” The direct “bless-curse” line concerned Abraham alone, not Israel.
While I am a Christian and I believe the US should support Israel, that “verse” is not in the Bible.

The context of the blessing, as repeated elsewhere in Genesis, refers to Abraham and his descendants. (Genesis 26:3-4, 27:29, 28:13-15). However, you're quite correct to note that there is no such verse referring to Israel as it did not exist at the time of the original blessing.
That is by our request. It would be percieved as a religious war and we would lose all Arab cooperation if Israeli troops were present in those countries. However, Israel gives us lots of intelligence which saves American lives.
I haven’t read very far in the comment to know whether this has been brought up, but, if memory serves, Bibi was coming over here to address AIPAC and, as tensions got high in the healthcare vote-buying, Obama realized he might have offended the Jewish Congressional block by his condemnation of the new Jerusalem housing. In a show of nicie-nicie, he invited Netanyahu to come talk to him while he was in the U.S. Once the healthcare vote was in, the Jewish vote was no longer needed and he didn’t need to be nice to Netanyahu. I firmly believe it was all a ploy to get healthcare passed.
