Skelton to Introduce Legislation to Protect TRICARE
Washington, D.C.Today, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) released the statement below regarding his intent to introduce legislation to explicitly state in law that TRICARE and the DOD nonappropriated fund (NAF) health plans meet all of the health care requirements currently under consideration by Congress for individual health insurance. These programs provide health coverage to members of the military and their families, military retirees and their families, and employees of U.S. military post/base exchanges and other nonappropriated fund activities.
Our nations military provides us with first-class protection, and it is our obligation to provide themand their familieswith first-class health care in return. While some of this Committees members may disagree on overall health care reform, we are united in our commitment to ensuring that any measure signed into law will not have any unintended consequences that adversely impact the military health care programs for our men and women in uniform and their families.
Although the health care legislation passed by the House explicitly exempted TRICARE from being affected, the Senate bill did not. Unfortunately, the parliamentary rules of the reconciliation process did not allow for the inclusion of language that specifically protects these programs. To reassure our nations service members and their families that their health coverage will remain unaffected by this, I will introduce legislation this week to explicitly state that TRICARE and the NAF health plans meet all requirements for individual health insurance; this language will also be included in this years national defense authorization bill.
Where has the media been on this? never heard anything on Fox news about Tricare and other military insurance being excluded. IF this had been presented to the American people there is NO doubt Obamacare would have been DOA.
Every one of these pro-Obamacare vandals has sworn an oath of office that requires the subordination of public office holders to the Will of the People as described in the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution.
People who vote for this bill are voting against the Constitution; and as such, are subject to impeachment (in whatever most suitable fashion) on grounds of frank violation of their Oath of Office.
A huge can of worms is being opened, in this pretext/fiasco of so-called "legitimate governance." And it is the most corrupt can of worms I've ever seen come out of Washington, both procedurely and policywise. It is a national disgrace that Congress is even talking about it, let alone trying to pass it tomorrow.
But it still ain't over till the fat lady sings....
fed up in sunny 8^) Florida!
We asked him to bring three points to the attention of our Congresswoman:
1. We have no guarantees the senate democrats will have any interest in taking up the reconciliation bill, let alone a third bill on health care, after the wire-brushing they've all been going through over the current bill.
2. We have no idea how many other 'oversights' there are yet to be discovered in the current Senate bill - and now the House reconciliation bill - that will require their own 'fix' bills, with each subsequent 'fix' having a reduced chance of the senate bothering to take it up.
3. The US Constitution also used to be 'well respected' on the hill, too. We've seen what has happened to that. Why should we expect democrats to continue to 'respect' TRICARE, VA, or our veterans themselves once Obama has a bill to sign?
Ping!!
Thanks for the ping FMC. I cannot help but wonder how many Demorats actually know what is in or not in the bill as it now stands. It is all smoke and mirrors. Surely we shall hear from the Republican side on this issue soon.
I didn't want to belabor my post with the full heritage of military service for all the relatives. I agree that we have to stand up and prevent the country from going down the route of dictatorship.
Sent several emails to Fox News blasting them for not airing the military exclusion in Obamacare. This morning I heard it mentioned by the guy that anchored with Megyn Kelly. It needs to be brought to the attention of the American people and blasted on the airwaves.
WE ARE SO SCREWED!
Thanks a lot, Blue Dog Democrats. You jerks.
2011!

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollees cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf
Impact of Medicare Reimbursement Rate Decrease on TRICARE
On March 3, Congress passed emergency legislation delaying the 21.2 percent decrease in Medicare reimbursement rates for an additional 30 days. The TRICARE Management Activity greatly appreciates Congress’ swift action as it allowed more time to fully evaluate the impact the decrease in Medicare reimbursement rates will have on the TRICARE program.
Whatever the outcome, TRICARE will take at least 30 days to fully understand the impact on TRICARE and take appropriate action. While federal law requires TRICARE reimbursement rates to be equal to Medicare rates to the extent practical, the law does permit TRICARE to make exceptions to ensure an adequate network of providers or to eliminate a situation of severely impaired access to care.
More information about this legislation and its impact on TRICARE will be posted on the TRICARE.mil website as soon as it becomes available.

From House Republican Policy:
*9.2 million military personnel, families and retirees don’t deserve a back room deal?
“Although the health care legislation passed by the House explicitly exempted TRICARE from being affected, the Senate bill did not. Unfortunately, the parliamentary rules of tof the reconciliation process did not allow for the inclusion of language that specficially protects these programs.” — Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO)
Background: On March 18, 2010, just days before the House votes on the Democrats government takeover of health care, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) announced he would introduce legislation to preemptively state that TRICARE and the Department of Defense non-appropriated fund (NAF) health plans meet all of the health care requirements currently under consideration by Congress for individual health insurance. TRICARE and the NAF health plans programs provide health coverage to members of the military and their families, military retirees and their families, and employees of U.S. military post/base exchanges. Chairman Skelton even stated he would also insert this legislative language into the national defense authorization bill, reiterating the threat the health care bill currently poses to military health plans. This is an explicit admission that the final Democrat health care bill does not protect these plans.
Military Protections Scrapped: The Senate-passed health care bill, which the House is expected to deem passed on March 21, 2010, omitted protections for military health plans that were included in the House bill.

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.
President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees in fiscal 2010, Matz said. We took them at their word, and I cant believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward, he added.
Courtsey Freeper Yorkie
Well, Reps Buck McKeon, (R) CALIF, Geoff Davis, (R) Kentucky, Steve Buyer (R) Indiana were trying to get an amendment passed to protect Tri-Care and Tri-Care for Life, (if Obamacare passes tomorrow), but it was knocked down by the Dems, because they said the Republicans were just trying to stall the vote - and there was NOTHING in the bill that would stop Tri-Care from caring for our Vets and Ret. Vets and families. It got pretty heated, especially by Rep. Geoff Davis. He was near tears over what this bill is going to do to Tri-Care!
Does anyone know if Ike Skelton will face any competition in the 2010 election? he is just barely out of my district and announced saturday that he was running. I want to support his opposition
Nothing surprises me anymore...
Thanks for that info.
Read reply #53 and pass it to others, especially military and retired military members.
You’re welcome, knowledge is power, spread it. Between the Medicare and Tricare cut & gut we seniors will be having a tough time.
