Skelton to Introduce Legislation to Protect TRICARE
Washington, D.C.Today, House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) released the statement below regarding his intent to introduce legislation to explicitly state in law that TRICARE and the DOD nonappropriated fund (NAF) health plans meet all of the health care requirements currently under consideration by Congress for individual health insurance. These programs provide health coverage to members of the military and their families, military retirees and their families, and employees of U.S. military post/base exchanges and other nonappropriated fund activities.
Our nations military provides us with first-class protection, and it is our obligation to provide themand their familieswith first-class health care in return. While some of this Committees members may disagree on overall health care reform, we are united in our commitment to ensuring that any measure signed into law will not have any unintended consequences that adversely impact the military health care programs for our men and women in uniform and their families.
Although the health care legislation passed by the House explicitly exempted TRICARE from being affected, the Senate bill did not. Unfortunately, the parliamentary rules of the reconciliation process did not allow for the inclusion of language that specifically protects these programs. To reassure our nations service members and their families that their health coverage will remain unaffected by this, I will introduce legislation this week to explicitly state that TRICARE and the NAF health plans meet all requirements for individual health insurance; this language will also be included in this years national defense authorization bill.
My father served in WWII and then did 20 years in the Army reserves. Because of TCFL, my mother’s cancer treatment when she was 82 was completely paid for. Unfortunately, she passed away, but at least had a couple of more months thanks to the formerly greatest healthcare system in the world, especially here in Houston.

KILL THE BILL!!!!
Come November, KICK their nasty BUTTS out!
This is an on the record vote against military members, their families, veterans, and retired military. Any Senator who voted for this bill knew (or should have known) what was in it, and could have offered an amendment (or held out for a big deal to get an amendment) which could have addressed TriCare. Any House Member who votes for this (via direct vote or Demon Pass) is voting against military members, their families, veterans, and retired military This should be an issue in any state with a significant military or veteran population in all upcoming elections. Let’s make this vote a millstone around incumbent Dems necks.

2010 will be the Waterloo for the Democrat House, and the year of significant gains in the Senate. 2012 must be the Waterloo for the Democrat Senate and Obama. In 2013 the roll-back begins. We have a three-year campaign in front of us to restore freedom.
THIS INFORMATION MUST SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE TO EVERY MILITARY VETERAN!
Post it anywhere and everywhere. All veterans must know this.
I finally got through to Skelton’s office(202)225-2876. I told his staffer that it was not enough for Skelton to merely oppose the legislation that the dems are trying to shove through; but that he needed to lean on his fellow dems, especially the moderates, to not support it.
Yet Ike Skelton is for Obamacare. The traitor and I will work hard to see he is defeated in Missouri.
We use tricare for life too. My husband did 2 tours in Nam and 3 in Korea. Skelton has done too little, too late.
Good luck with that....I guessed you missed that Skelton voted 'yea' to the H Res 1190 allowing suspension of the rules (i.e., the Slaughter Rule)on the 18th.
Skelton will vote NO on the Reform bill, but is enabling his compadres to usurp the Constitution anyway. He is a snake trying to play both sides here.
God and Heaven above, intervene on our behalf! KILL THIS BILL!
Thank you for the number. I just got thru to Skelton’s office and told the aide it was too little too late. This is the 9th hour and that Skelton shoud vote NO. He is trying to cover his ass at a late date and should have been aware of the damage to tricare BEFORE now. Told them to scrap the bill and start over. Also, called Claire McCaskill’s Springfield office and emailed Roy Blunt.
Told the aide from Skelton’s office that I was going to blast this to the VFW and to write letters to the editors and blog away on his “cover up” unless he votes NO
Call him BACK and tell him to vote NO! he is trying to cover his ass during the next election and hold up this “faux legislation” he introduced at the 9th hour.
KILL THIS BILL and start over.
Thank you for spelling out the REAL impact this will have on those who serve, who have served, and their families.
I’ve been calling his office 202.225.2876.. busy signal, busy signal, busy signal..will keep trying, please do the same.
Me too. I got thru and told his aide that Skelton was doing a John Kerry “I voted for it before I voted against it” and informed him that I would do everything humanly possible to expose the fact he refused to vote no and start again.
MajoratWH Event w/Obama will be a real rally. Also, House to pass TRICARE exemption from HC bill. Senate 2 folo. Wrinkle ironed,
Just called Rep. Jenkins (Kansas) and was told they just took a vote and those with TRICARE will not have to purchase additional insurance. My beloved (NO Longer Free State) will share his thoughts on our conversation with her office.
Her office said, WILL the senate follow through, that is up for grabs.
If this was screwed up, a respected program on the HILL (her offices words), than what else is screwed up in this bill aside from it being a SCREWED up bill all together.
FED UP IN SNOWY KANSAS!!
