Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bills new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
In response to the JCT letter, Camp said: This is the ultimate example of the Democrats command-and-control style of governing buy what we tell you or go to jail. It is outrageous and it should be stopped immediately.
Key excerpts from the JCT letter appear below:
H.R. 3962 provides that an individual (or a husband and wife in the case of a joint return) who does not, at any time during the taxable year, maintain acceptable health insurance coverage for himself or herself and each of his or her qualifying children is subject to an additional tax. [page 1]

If the government determines that the taxpayers unpaid tax liability results from willful behavior, the following penalties could apply

Ok, if this is the case... if this is true... then
NANCY... KISS MY A*S
We no longer have a constitutional government and I will refuse to recognize it in any form on a Federal level. Any questions?

Not only do they want to have access to your bank accounts so that they can make electronic transfers, but they also want information on ALL of your finances!
I’ve been having a fit about this since 3206 (I think that’s the first number Congress used) first came out, but no one else seemed to care.

I had completely forgotten about that song. I remember the guy saying “all I wanted was a Pespsi” then screaming “but she wouldn't give it to me!” Whoever came up with that caption might have had that in mind.

As if anyone didn’t see this one coming. I blame the ones who put Obama in charge. Over 50% of America. And they did the same with Clinton, and shouted “More!” for his second term.
I dont think it will stop with jail, but will probably evolve into jail + asset forfeiture (i.e. your house).
I’ll bet San Franciscans are so proud.

Also note the wording acceptable level of insurance coverage. In other words, they can keep raising the bar of acceptable Is that not how they did the minimum/working/livable wage argument, allowing them -- the federal government -- to dictate wages?

So can I presume JimRob’s warning a few months ago about “salty talk” (and the inevitable visit from Secret Service) to be temporarily suspended?
Getting scary in here.

Yes and no. It will cost you around $5.00 for a health care visit and $5.00 for each prescription. Comes out of allowance given to prisoners or money from home in your spending account.

Debtors’ prison is illegal and unconstitutional - and going because you can’t pay an unconstitutional “public option (socialized medicine) insurance premium”.
