Media Release
WATERTOWN, N.Y., November 1, 2009 Doug Hoffman the Conservative candidate for Congress in New Yorks 23rd District today received the endorsement of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
Rudy Giuliani said: On Tuesday, the voters of the North Country have a very clear choice when they cast their vote for Congress. Its a choice between a tax and spend Nancy Pelosi Democrat and a common sense conservative Republican named Doug Hoffman.
Doug Hoffman has what it takes to be a great Congressman. Hes not a professional politician; hes a private citizen, and a successful small businessman. Hes somebody who cares about his community and wants to give something back. As a CPA, Doug knows the toll that high taxes and the ever growing deficit are having on this nation and its people. He understands that we must cut spending and cut taxes if we want to get our economy moving again. As the father of a decorated State Trooper, who was shot in the line of duty, he understands the need to be tough with those who threaten us; whether they are career criminals on our streets or terrorists who want to destroy the freedoms we cherish. In Congress, he will be a vocal advocate for smaller government, less red tape and a government that works for the taxpayer, not against them. On election day, please cast your vote for Doug Hoffman hes the type of Congressman America needs.
I’m interested in having people stand for conservative values when it’s not the easy and convenient thing to do.
I like Rudy for what he did in NYC, but his political instincts are abysmal.
For instance, he should have run for Governor in 2006 instead of that wacky POTUS run, and he should declare himself for Gov *now* instead of waiting for the Paterson/Cuomo scenario to hash itself out. And as a 'declared' candidate for Gov, he could have involved himself in this upstate congressional race much sooner ... but apparently Rudy didn't want to take the chance of either coming down on the wrong side (Dede), or being bold and supporting Hoffman
I agree, this is good news and good timing to counter scuzzyfavors endorsement and last minute shenanigans.
Ladies and gentlemen, submitted for your consideration as the potential quote of the week.
Even so, Rudy Guiliani would have been a better President than the current resident.
Giuliani was not conservative in most areas, including some very important to me (he’s not pro-life, for example), but he did do a good job getting NYC shaped up after the depredations of years of liberals.
Take what you can get. If he’s supporting Hoffman, this is a good sign, because it means that maybe even some liberal-leaning GOPers (who weren’t necessarily RINOs but weren’t conservative, either) are beginning to see the handwriting on the wall.
Also, maybe this is the beginning of the groundswell that will get Obama out or neutralize him.
Great! This is NY and Rudy is regarded well in NY23, so every bit of help counts. Those that want Hoffman to win should know better, and any help towards victory should be welcomed. Hoffman hasn’t won yet, the elections are on Tuesday, and considering the democrats are so corrupt, this isn’t over yet!
FWIW, Owens has only 61 Facebook fans.

they may be Johnny come latelys BUT it keeps the momentum with Hoffman.......especially since Dede publically announced for Owens.
The Dem ads are linking Hoffman to Bush. When will waving the bloody bush falg get old with the Dems?
Hoffman will take any endorsement he can get on the local level. This House seat has become too nationalized. Giuliani and Pataki give Hoffman “gravitas” on local issues.
But that doesn't keep me from realizing that this endorsement is a good thing for Hoffman.
It's not about Rudy. It's about conservative ascendancy. It's about an unknown Republican conservative in NY creating shock waves around the country.
It's good.
Mayor Greaseball would have brought friends like Kerick, Harding, and Abramoff to the table. He is a scumbag who shouldn’t be made assistant manager of a 99 cent store. Let him wither away.
I was hoping for this. A little late but better than never.
BTTT.
“When will waving the bloody bush falg get old with the Dems?”
Look at how much milage we got out of Jimmy Carter’s failed Presidency.
“..it means that maybe even some liberal-leaning GOPers (who werent necessarily RINOs but werent conservative, either) are beginning to see the handwriting on the wall. “
Giuliani is far from conservative, but as endorsements go his could be even better than a conservative’s.
He is highly regarded to NYers, as post 27 said, and right now Hoffman could end up winning due to the amount of moderates he’s able to peel away from scozzafava.
This is a MAJOR endorsement, and perfect timing. Rudy is highly respected by Republicans and Dems in NYState. I now have a strong sense that Hoffman will be the winner on Tuesday.
They're lying through their teeth about Bush.
Truth wins out in the end. They can't keep up the "Bush is evil" template and get away with it for very long. In fact, I don't think they're getting away with it now.
Yes, that's very true. I'm from NYC and was living there when Giuliani ran, and people voted for him because of a very narrow range of "conservative" issues, mostly law and order and reducing the NYC welfare state. But it worked.
