MILITARY anger boiled over last night after Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth rebuffed a plea from front-line soldiers for immediate reinforcements in Afghanistan.
Mr Ainsworth had asked soldiers who have just endured a gruelling and bloody six-month tour what they needed. Without hesitation he was told: More troops.
But the Defence Secretary in Afghanistan with Home Secretary Alan Johnson, ironically to boost morale merely replied that reinforcements would take time.
Staff Sgt Kim Hughes, who will shortly return to his family in Shropshire, said: Its been a ridiculously busy, ridiculously hard tour. We have lost two guys.
Clearly more troops are needed on the ground, but then the same could be said for equipment.
The troops were backed last night by the new head of the Army, General Sir David Richards, who said sending more men to Afghanistan would reduce casualties.
Britain has lost 219 personnel in Afghanistan since operations began in 2001, including 82 so far this year amid the bloodiest summer of the campaign.
The majority lost this year were killed by roadside bombs or improvised explosive devices.
Defence chiefs are considering increasing Britains military presence from the current 9,000 to about 10,000.

British troops complain that they can take ground from the Taliban but do not have enough men to hold it. They have to keep retaking areas over and over again, increasing the risk of casualties.

He holds his meetings with the military while he is packing his bags, dressing and shaving in preparation to go fly somewhere. Probably goes "um-hmmm" alot and then concludes the meeting with "Listen, I gotta go. Let's meet again soon as I get back."
Don’t forget the money he gave Libya and the billions he gave Brazil to help them drill oil.
The creep.
... If 0bama won't LEAD, there is little we can do. How many of our sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers must die before 0bama makes the most important decision he has to make in the Oval Office. 0bama must decide to pick up and wear the Uniform of the United States of America as the Commander in Chief.
I suspect he can't and won't. He has never served. His ilk have no respect for the military complex of the United States. His preconceptions are the same as those who think our volunteer troops lack some level of intelligence. He will sit in conference with the brightest of the military and is unable to understand the strategy, the hazards, the real dangers. Worst of all he fails to value the opinion of real warriors... Now, though, Afghanistan, he has to decide he will lead troops, our troops either to victory or out of Afghanistan. I submit he is unfit for the duty. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2352308/posts?page=11#11
The weakness of 0bama in a military perspective is that he has always stood with those who are against our service people, against our military, and against American policy. When we look at 0bama we need to understand his psyche is with people like Ayers, Code Pink, ACORN, and even Sheehan.
With that in mind he may be the first CIC that is uniquiely unqualified for the duty of leading any kind of formal military operations.
He has to put on the Uniform of the US Military. He is the CIC and he is required to actually LEAD. He has to accept that role and responsiblity, no matter who advises him. If he wont then it is our responsiblity to defund the war and get our troops out. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2352327/posts?page=11#11
Dereliction of duty widely refers to failure, through negligence or obstinacy, to perform ones legal or moral duty to a reasonable expectation. In actuality, dereliction of duty is a specific offense under military law. Under the various regulations of military law, avoidance of a duty or failure to follow an order from a superior can result in a charge of dereliction of duty.
Obama fiddles while Afganistan burns.
Exactly. Surge now or GTFO.
I agree. The people he surrounds himself tell a great deal about him. Have you heard/read about Kevin Jennings? He is by far worse than Van Jones and an example of the garbage Othuga hangs out with.
