I'm going to try one more time to explain what FR is all about.
Free Republic is a conservative site. That does not necessarily mean it is a Republican site. In fact there may be many Republicans we don't support and some Republican issues we cannot agree with.
I'll throw in Arlen Specter as a prime example of a Republican we cannot support. Should be obvious to all why not. Should also be just as obvious to all that we cannot support Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, John McCain and his lap dog Lindsay Graham, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, et al.
Some of the issues we cannot support as conservatives even though sometimes initiated by so-called Republicans include TARP, or any kind of government bailout of private enterprise, federal intrusion into free markets, federalized education systems, government provided or controlled health care systems, abortion, gay marriage, amnesty, global warming, gun control, etc.
I guess there is more than one definition of conservatism floating around out there, and this won't be text book, but the one we use involves defending, preserving and protecting our constitution, our unalienable rights, our traditional family values, our American heritage, our nation, our borders and our sovereignty.
We aggressively defend our rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
We aggressively defend our rights to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to keep and bear arms, right to due process, right to equality under the law, right to be governed under the rule of law, right to constitutionally limited government, right to corruption free government, right to self-government and our private property rights, etc.
We also aggressively defend our right to state and local government for all issues not expressly delegated to the central government by the constitution.
We aggressively defend our rights to free markets and our rights to live our lives free of government intrusion, interference, coercion, force, or abuse of any kind.
We aggressively defend our rights to national sovereignty, state sovereignty and individual sovereignty!
And this definition also includes aggressively fighting against all enemies foreign and domestic who may try to deprive us of our rights or sovereignty. This would obviously include all foreign enemies, but also we defend against RINOS, Democrats, liberals, socialists, Marxists, communists, militant feminists or homosexualists, radical environmentalists, etc, etc, etc.
And we expect our elected representatives to also aggressively defend our rights and fight against all enemies foreign and domestic. We do not elect people and send them to DC or our state capitals, etc, to reach across the aisles or to be bipartisan or to negotiate or compromise away our rights. If you're not going to aggressively fight for us, and for our rights, STAY OUT!!
We bow to no king but God!
Our God-given unalienable rights are NOT negotiable!
Do NOT Tread on US!
Thank you very much!
Mitt's campaign operatives doled out their own "stimulus package" to newbies on FR....including a sign-up bonus!
“Scary what conservative “discourse” is devolving into, isn’t it”
What’s really scary it that these are the sites that I had hoped would be involved in the effort to limit the damage done by this administration and support candidates with the courage, vision and ethics to reverse our slide into authoritarianism ...but then I see such petty bickering.
If this is an example of what we have to depend on to “stand in the breach and hold the line” then our prospects are dismal. Pope John Paul II said we are living at the time of the greatest battle between good and evil the world has ever known, It appears we are seeing it unfold. Maybe Alaska isn’t such a bad idea, I can live in the south and dress warm.
bttt
Awesome.......
I don’t think it matters what I say. You will respond in a confrontation. So, go do what you want to do and think what you want to think. You definitely are “glued” and that is ok with me.
Look Kevin, your desires sound reasoned on the face of it, but here is why you are wrong.
I was never a huge fan of GHW Bush. I supported him in 1988 because I saw him as a man that would be most likely to continue on the Reagan years. To a certain degree he did, but he drifted. His later comments on the new world order made me realize this guy’s world view was diametrically opposed to my own.
Then we had George W. Bush. I used to say I liked the guy. Today I will say that I don’t hate him. I have severe problems with all too much of how he led this nation. I hate what he ushered in. The guy drifted. He was on point on some things, but he was worse than his father. I’m not going to bother about what I liked or didn’t about him right now, there is honestly some of each. Still, what good he did was by in large scared by what he other things he did or didn’t do.
Now we’ve slipped so far over the last twenty years, that our party thinks John McCain is the standard bearer of our beliefs. They also think Mitt Romney would be a great leader.
So for me this isn’t so much about the hate of Romney as it is the hate of what people like him, McCain, Snowe, Specter, Graham, and others have done to to our party.
Abortion: Well just give it lip service, that’s all they really want
Borders: Don’t be a racist, those are just poor folks trying to get by in life
Defense: These are tough times, don’t push for what we need, push for the least you think they’ll accept
Big Government: Talk a good line about smaller government, then fund the biggest government you can, green projects, global warming, it’s all good...
Security: Downsize, eliminate needed programs, reach out to the other side, give away secrets and technology through trade, and if any objects, tell them they aren’t good Capitalists
Taxes: You can get away with adjusting them, if you make it look like only the rich are going to get hit
Associations: You can reach out to anyone, Soros, Kerry, the Tides Foundation, Gun Control groups... it’s all good, you’re a king makers, a deal maker, the consummate negotiator, and nobody will notice you’re negotiating your nation away
Look, where do we draw the line? People on our side are ripping our past present and future to shreds right in front of us, and yet we’re talking about the need to win, rather than the need to focus.
As a guy who has been voting for thirty-eight years, I’m going on the record as not being willing to watch this nation go one more inch to the left in MY name. If the Democrats want to slice and dice this nation, they can do it, but I won’t be voting for them, and I won’t be voting for anyone on my side to do the same things.
Romney isn’t worthy of being hated. I agree with that. He isn’t worthy of being supported either. And I’m not sorry at all, that I do hate what he has stood for, and I don’t trust him any farther than any other leftist I won’t vote for.
I’m looking for a Palin or Jindal type, someone who actually knows what Conservatism is, has governed as a Conservative, and plans on moving up the food chain as a Conservative.
All other need not apply. Don’t even submit an application.
I may be out of touch with what this nation is turning into, and if so my opinion won’t count for anything anyway. So just dismiss my thoughts here if you think you need a good middle of the road moderate, that will give you 70% of what Obama will.
I’m more than happy to disassociate myself with that effort. And there’s your problem isn’t it. If you don’t want Conservatives, then there’s no need for the Republican party. And bud, true Conservatives have gone as far left as they are every going to go, on their dime.
If you want to support leftists, there’s a party out there with open arms thrilled to have you. If you want to support Conservatives and the Republican party, then you’re in the right place already.
If leftist want Europe they should move there. If U.S. Citizens want leftist policy, they should join the Democrat party. Don’t sign on to changing our nation and our party. Just move right on down the road to where they share your views, be that here or there.
“I may be out of touch with what this nation is turning into”
I seem to be, too.
Very good post.
Thank you. Honestly, I don’t think we’re as out of touch as some people like to describe us as being.
The media plays that game, and some of our group gets discouraged and believes them.
Our turn is coming...
We are not heard on the lamestream media. I know many people that worship o-bozo and what he is doing, let alone people who believe the ‘pubs are too far right (that is what the media tells them).
"I'll throw in Arlen Specter...Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, et al."
The et al implies there are more on the FR proscribed list that JimRob hasn't yet specifically named.
Candidates like Jindal, Cantor, Pence, etc. are somewhat suspect and may later be denounced by JimRob as dirty socialist RINO scum. Then, a Freeper who may have been supportive of these candidates is branded a RINO supporter.
Agreed...
I am not going to read this whole thread - I read enough of it yesterday and have enough time here to know what it is about. I do identify with your post and I dread the next purge that will come as sure as the sun sets tonight. It’s a shame.
I don’t defend Bush either. He was terribly disappointing.
And the Repub party is full of RINOs it has steadily been moving to the left for at least the last 20 years (since I got involved in politics).
Yeah he is not my favorite either but there are worse in the Republican Party. He is liberal on some things and conservative on others. We can do better. But he was the best spoken candidate in the last election - on both sides. We need conservatives who can speak like that - or they are toast.
I tried to make my point clear but apparently you are not comprehending what Im saying.
***Of course I comprehend it. I just disagree with it. Your tactics are relatively typical, really. Have a nice day y’self.
I like Duncan Hunter but I also like Mitt Romney. Does that mean I am half out?
Mitt the Moderate Placemarker
I has to do with “cleansing the party”, you know, so when it’s all over the few left standing can sit and groove on the rubble.
Hey.
“So, correct discussion of candidates at FR bashing/praising respectively depending on a list that JimRob will promulgate at various times?”
Jim is Jacob...
