I'm going to try one more time to explain what FR is all about.
Free Republic is a conservative site. That does not necessarily mean it is a Republican site. In fact there may be many Republicans we don't support and some Republican issues we cannot agree with.
I'll throw in Arlen Specter as a prime example of a Republican we cannot support. Should be obvious to all why not. Should also be just as obvious to all that we cannot support Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, John McCain and his lap dog Lindsay Graham, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, et al.
Some of the issues we cannot support as conservatives even though sometimes initiated by so-called Republicans include TARP, or any kind of government bailout of private enterprise, federal intrusion into free markets, federalized education systems, government provided or controlled health care systems, abortion, gay marriage, amnesty, global warming, gun control, etc.
I guess there is more than one definition of conservatism floating around out there, and this won't be text book, but the one we use involves defending, preserving and protecting our constitution, our unalienable rights, our traditional family values, our American heritage, our nation, our borders and our sovereignty.
We aggressively defend our rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
We aggressively defend our rights to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom to keep and bear arms, right to due process, right to equality under the law, right to be governed under the rule of law, right to constitutionally limited government, right to corruption free government, right to self-government and our private property rights, etc.
We also aggressively defend our right to state and local government for all issues not expressly delegated to the central government by the constitution.
We aggressively defend our rights to free markets and our rights to live our lives free of government intrusion, interference, coercion, force, or abuse of any kind.
We aggressively defend our rights to national sovereignty, state sovereignty and individual sovereignty!
And this definition also includes aggressively fighting against all enemies foreign and domestic who may try to deprive us of our rights or sovereignty. This would obviously include all foreign enemies, but also we defend against RINOS, Democrats, liberals, socialists, Marxists, communists, militant feminists or homosexualists, radical environmentalists, etc, etc, etc.
And we expect our elected representatives to also aggressively defend our rights and fight against all enemies foreign and domestic. We do not elect people and send them to DC or our state capitals, etc, to reach across the aisles or to be bipartisan or to negotiate or compromise away our rights. If you're not going to aggressively fight for us, and for our rights, STAY OUT!!
We bow to no king but God!
Our God-given unalienable rights are NOT negotiable!
Do NOT Tread on US!
Thank you very much!
There is? (Wanna let us know who the good-character Satanists are?)
Conversely, there are people of poor character in every religion and denomination.
You know the Judeo-Christian faith actually leans much more toward this character assessment than your previous statement:
...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God... (Romans 3:23)
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. (Isaiah 64:6)
By all means, approach people as being made in God's image -- but just beware that image is badly marred.
Where do you stop the litmus test?
You know it's funny, if you ask most FREEPERS + look @ polling data, about half of America -- and a much higher %, it seems, of FREEPERS, wouldn't vote for a Muslim candidate. What's interesting on the threads in the past two years where discussion ensues about voting for Muslim candidates is that I can't recall a post like yours rushing into defend Muslim candidates. So tell us, if a FREEPER says he won't vote for a Muslim candidate, or an atheist candidate, or a Scientologist, or a Wicca witch, or a Satanist, do you rush in to ask the same question? Do you say, "Gee, if you won't vote for a Muslim, well, then, where does the litmus test stop?" (If not, why not?)
Polling data already shows up that almost half of America says they wouldn't vote for an atheist or Muslim POTUS candidate. Do you take issue with this high % of Americans? (Yes or no?)
Why might I or any Christian have problems with a Muslim candidate? Well, for one thing, most Muslims consider Christians as "infidels." If he's mislabeling our very faith foundation -- a faith that covers 1/3rd of the world, how does that exude confidence or inspiration that he has good discernment -- especially dealing in foreign affairs where Christians are persecuted?
Since official LDS doctrine on Christian sects isn't really all that distinct from Muslims -- Muslims call us "infidels"; Mormons call Christian sects "apostates" -- how do the questions I just asked differ then between Muslims & Mormons? Both mislabel 1/3rd of the world as either "infidels" or "apostates." How is that suppose to inspire the Christian vote?
Furthermore, according to Rasmussen polling data, even 55% of Democrats say it's either very important or important to take the faith of a candidate into consideration. (That goes up to almost 3/4 of Republicans and 92% of Evangelicals)
So are you telling the majority of all Americans they should just ignore faith considerations, after all? Are you telling 92% of Evangelicals that they're supposed to ignore that after, per RB?)
I don’t know any major Party candidates that claimed “Satanist” as their religion.
The only Satanists that I can recall is that 70s movie with PeterFonda and Karen Black in it where the Satanist Village fakes a school bus accident to get the Winnebago to stop.
You’re welcome. I should have, could have, written that more clearly. My bad. If we are going to salvage the GOP, we have to throw some deadweight over the side and start bailing. It is going to be a long haul, and the rinos are already charging...
Another Bush, and Romney and McCain? Look in the mirror idiots, youre the reason we are where we are!! Please go away!!
Just my two cents worth, JMack, but in my opinion, if someone (like Duncan Hunter) can’t or won’t do what it takes in order to win an election (like make himself known in the public forum), then I’m not about to put my voting card in his basket. Why should I campaign for a guy that won’t even campaign for himself? We don’t have the luxury of wasted time and effort. Hunter is a good man but he doesn’t have what it takes.
Of course, he could prove me wrong but so far the only place I ever see his name mentioned anymore is on this forum. Like I used to yell at Fred Thompson. ____ or get off the pot.

It seems like it was right around this point in the thread that the title was changed from
“Free Republic is a conservative site!”
to
“Unlike Romney’s “National Council for a New America,” Free Republic is a conservative site!”
I think the prior title was more general and a little bit better.
Excuse me, but I always thought Jeb B. was considered to be a conservative by most people on here; how did that change? Another thing is you’re not going to win people over to your side by calling supporters of Bush, Romney and McCain “idiots”! I realize some people didn’t support them, and why. But I really think calling their supporters names is disgusting and insulting!
Have you ever seen/remember an old commercial that Ronald Reagan made with his then-teenage daughter Patty for Boraxo powdered soap? It’s on “You Tube” if you, or anyone else, wants to see it!
On 9/12/01 who would have guessed BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA would be the name of the next U.S. President? I say hogwash on your theory.
Well said.
Of course!
MORMONs have the "Holier-than-thee" Gold MEdal!
You belittle yourself by showing that you do not know just what JS 'learned' to be UNTRUE about PRESBYTERIANism in the 1830's...
Is not this your own preconceived ideas of the LDS?
After all man struggles with his nature, all are subjected to the same challenges for their needs to grow.
Those LDS as well as others who choose to walk the ways of the Lord their burdens will be light.
Matthew 11
28 ¶ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
If you feel that as you stated
MORMONs have the “Holier-than-thee” Gold MEdal!
Could it not be you Elsie are entertaining the green eyed monster instead of the council of the Lord?

Knowing or not knowing about PRESBYTERIANism has NOTHING to do with my salvation, my salvation comes from God not some tradition of man church in the world which will parish when the earth is translated.
Thank you very much!
Matthew 11

Jesus said, “Come unto ME”
He never said “come unto Joey Smith and the church of Joseph’S Myth”
Jesus said to Resty, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man, or woman comes to the Father except by ME” John 14:6
Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in HIM, Colossians 2:6

It was everything to Joey Smith...
he founded his LDS Inc on that premise...
That Presbyterianism was untrue...
The cornerstone and foundation of the mormon religion...
“Whew. I was going to say you had friends, but I was afraid youd turn your flamethrower on me. :p”
Naa I like you Mom.
LDS should promote positive image, Elder Perry says
"Recent studies, he said, found that "51 percent of people have no awareness of Mormon practices and beliefs," that "47 percent of people do not have a favorable view of Mormons," and "that 31 percent of people believe that Mormons are not Christian."
Mitt will just play the part of a spoiler in the next election, just the way he did in 2008.
That wasn’t a movie. It WAS the 70s. ;)
