By your vote, you have chosen another family over ours for help. So in the future, if you need assistance with your rent, money for gas, tires for your car, someone to bring you lunch, etc....call 202-456-1111. That's the telephone number for the Office of the President of the United States .

I did not write the same email but certainly thought about it to the majority of my family and most certainly my mom who voted for Obama. You see I send her expensive gifts on each occasion that pertains to her and also guess who stands to inherit my money if I die? I thought very seriously about changing my will. Why? Because these people told me they do not like wealthy people or find wealth to be a bad thing. Thus I do not want them to hate themselves.

Also all those expensive gifts and airline tickets for Mom? Well they are the result of having a lot of excess cash that I wanted to spend on my beloveds. Since charitable giving unfortunately will have to go down a bit and I anticipating my monies being taxed at a much higher rate I need to save my money.

Guess I am going to have to pull out the ole' crayons from way back to make family gifts. LOL. Screw 'em all. The only reason Mom's gifts will continue albeit less expensive is because of what God says about our parents in the bible in the ten commandments. I follow God's law. But honor is all she'll get and the rest? I think I will be changing my will this year. If she wants to visit on my dime she is going to find that I am saving my dimes and she can dig into her stash. Maybe ask Obama for the cash.

We had a similar situation. After the election, when we got together for family suppers, we didn't contribute to table nearly as much as we had before. People were a bit miffed -- "Why don't you bring steaks anymore?" "Why no GOOD beer?" -- until we pointed out that we were conserving funds to deal with the inevitable tax increases that were coming with Zer0's election, and that if they wanted a free ride, they could apply to 0.

Political Science as a major is part of the problem. Somewhere along the line, people - mostly liberals- looked at politics as a career rather than the public service it was intended to be. I know there are exceptions to the rule but, in general, a poly sci major is a liberal politician in the making. These liberals want to be somebody, rather than do something. If you look at all the recent liberals (Clinton, Gore, Kerry , Obama) on the presidential career path, they all take the poly sci or law school route as the stepping stones to their "career". Most conservative leaders, (Reagan, Romney, Palin), have already accomplished something in their own lives. They don't need to be somebody. They get involved as a service to dosomething for their country.

Glad you’ve come over from the Dark Side! Still, I believe that it isn’t necessary to be liberal at any point in one’s life. Unless there’s a “Book Of Winston Churchill” in the Bible, I take his quote with a grain of salt. (I’ve always thought that quote was interesting, though.)

I do think that a family’s attitudes are huge factors in kids’ political views. When we were little, the only nights we could stay up late were for Republican Conventions and election night results. Seeing Mom cry uncontrollably when JFK was elected had an impact. So did Eleanor Roosevelt’s picture on the back of Grandpa’s bathroom door well in to the ‘60s. (He hated to spend money on laxatives — or so he said.) In Sunday School, studying the connection between Christian liberty and American liberty made was powerful. Teaching in the home is important.

He probably comes from one of those old fashioned families where family helps family. When my parents were alive, they helped my wife and I out a lot when we were young. Later, I took care of them when they were no longer able to help themselves. Later still, we helped our oldest son and daughter out when they started families of their own. Still have two teenagers at home, and one day we’ll do our best to help them get a leg up on life as well.

In my world at least, those are real conservative values put into practice.

COOL! Sometimes it takes drastic measures to convey a point. If it’s steak and beer for your family, then great! We used: (1) The cost of gasoline to drive to their place for visits and to do maintenance and (2) suggested plans for them to downscale their living arrangements because, where we might have been able to help them financially as time passed, that was no longer an option.

I agree. It is one thing to withhold handouts from adult children. They think they’re entitled and it is about time they learn what the real world is like — either support themselves or get it from Obamessiah. But your parents fed, clothed and cared for you for 18 years, at least. You have an obligation to them, regardless of political differences.

1976 was my first election as well. I recall not being too disappointed that Jimmy Carter was elected because I voted for Thomas Jefferson Anderson. So did 3,697 other people in my state.

I’m a firm believer that family is the most important thing in the world. I couldn’t trust a man who politics above family.

My dad is already gone. My dad was a life long conservative and a generous man (and the only reason my mom has as much income as she now does in her old age). I know what it is like to lose a parent and that we miss them greatly when they are gone. I did not say I was going to quit talking with her on the phone as often as I do or welcoming her greatly and enjoying her when she visits. I was just saying they will not get my money in the very generous way as they have in the past. I have been more than generous with them all.

I need to cut back because of what it happening with the economy and in anticipation of future heavier taxation. Nothing wrong with that and there is nothing wrong either with letting people who may be affected know why. Also my will is best oriented toward legitimate charities anyway that will better spread God's word and also conservative values.

Also these people voted for Obama. They need to take responsibility and see the consequences of voting in a Marxist/Socialist.

Also aren't relationships about more than money anyway? Spending less and less frequently has nothing to do with loving ones' parents less before they pass on. If her love and enjoyment from me is about the gifts she gets then maybe she needs to learn to love me without.

Our daughter didn’t turn 18 until Feb 09, so she did not have a chance to vote for Obama, although most of her friends did. I will continue to work on her until the elections in 2010.

We lived in France for 4 LONG years. I have seen the destruction of Socialism up close and personal. I cried all night on election night. I never thought I’d see my country make such a disastrous decision.

Unfortunately, people do not know what they’ve got until its gone... and Americans will have to learn that lesson the hard way.

I just hope we can get our country back without having to make the same sacrifices that our forefathers made...

When you think of what they left us and what we have allowed it to become, it’s almost unbearable to consider what we’ve lost.

Ah, that's different. If that's the case, then you'd be cutting back no matter who your mother supported. That's a far cry from the "I'm gonna punish Mom because she voted for Obama" that I apparently misread in your original post.

I was awakened from my vegetative state as soon as I graduated from college and found out that I had a secret partner (the Government) who took 12% off the top in FICA, 1.5% in Medicare, (at the time) 22% Federal tax, 2.3% City Tax, and 4.35% State tax. I got to keep about half my paycheck: Instant Conservative. Every time I hear some Bozo complaining about what "the Government" should pay for I think: have a bake sale and get the money on your own.
