I was awakened from my vegetative state as soon as I graduated from college and found out that I had a secret partner (the Government) who took 12% off the top in FICA, 1.5% in Medicare, (at the time) 22% Federal tax, 2.3% City Tax, and 4.35% State tax. I got to keep about half my paycheck: Instant Conservative. Every time I hear some Bozo complaining about what "the Government" should pay for I think: have a bake sale and get the money on your own.

I have a feeling that happens a LOT, when people have to work for a living. My husband said he became a conservative as a student at Berkeley in the ‘70s. He observed the lib students and decided he didn’t want to be like them. (He may be the only person in the world to became conservative at Berkeley!)
