Sen. George Voinovich (R-Ohio) has pulled out of negotiations on a bipartisan compromise on the Senates economic stimulus bill.
Three Republicans Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Olympia Snowe (Maine) and Arlen Specter (Pa.) continue to negotiate with Democrats, but Voinovichs departure could make it more difficult for Democrats to reach the 60 votes they need to pass the bill.
Voinovich left a meeting in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids (D-Nev.) office around 2:30 p.m., saying he did not believe there was a deal he could agree to on an amendment that would cut as much as $100 billion from the more than $920 billion measure.
Ive really tried to work on this, but the three things that it should be timely, that it should be temporary and it should be targeted, that was something that I looked at, Voinovich said. It just doesnt meet my criteria, and I feel very sorry because I think the Majority Leader has his responsibility, and hes got his Members that he has to take care of.
Specter seems to be the ringleader and Collins sponsored this, so Snowe is the weak link. She should be targeted with phone calls the most.
Feinstein might defect. We need some moderate Dems like Blanch Lincoln or Baucus to defect also.
agreed I’m calling right now along with some red dog Dems
Lets target them as much as we can as they have no idea we’re not in their area
Specter is a lost cause. He has been voting for most of the Dems amendments..
Negotiation for what? Surrender?
The usual RINO rats.
I believe that it is 940 now. As the 3 rhinos keep negotiating behind closed doors it keeps going up!
At 4:25 p.m. EST, Collins’ mailbox is full and Snowe’s line is busy...
...that alone says a lot.
He sure was Johnny-on-the-spot when he suspended his campaign and winged it to DC to support the disasterous first bailout (TARP).
He's apparently caught in the grip of inertia now that he could could make a psychological difference with the moderate legislators if he symbolically walked out of all O-ridiculous negotiations.
No guts, no glory, John (yes, I DID clean that up).
Leni
But it will make me feel better to yell at him.
:)
“The mailbox of Senator Susan Collins is full. Good bye.”
Good news! Keep calling the RNC too folks!
Tell Steele to reel them back in or they are going to hurt our entire party! No-one is going to want to give money to the RNC out of fear some will go to the rino traitors! Every good senator will be hurt by this betrayal!

I know the democrats are a close group but I can’t help but believe that some of their senators from red or purple states aren’t getting hammered by their voters. Can’t see Reid getting all of them to vote for it, could well be wrong.
come = calm! Geesh. Been a long day!
I heard Collins was out too - leaving Specter and Snowe.
Why Specter would be for this is beyond me. He’s up for re-election in ‘10 and this vote would guarantee a primary.
It appears Collins is out now.

Woo hoo!! Keep the pressure on!!
Voinovich probably went behind closed doors to find out what the f**k Collins, Snowe and Spector were UP TO!
RINOs at work.
Her phone was taken off the hook at 8:00 this morning. She is ignoring our outrage! Call one of her district offices:
