President-elect Barack Obama is calling for the Illinois governor to resign.
Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs says the president-elect agrees with other prominent politicians in Illinois and elsewhere that "under the current circumstances, it is difficult for the governor to effectively do his job and serve the people of Illinois."

How can they have an election? Doesn’t the state constitution require an appointment? Don’t they have a Lt. Gov?
That would be AWESOME.... we can only hope!! While he's at it, Blago could bring up Michelle Obama getting a $330K/year job and ask how that happened, say watching the Obamas made him want the same kind of perks, etc.
This may take down Jesse Jackson, Jr. but it would be so much fun if Blago decided to take down everyone else in sight........

Jonathan Alter has already “warned” that Blago is going to start telling lies about Obama to bring him down.
It’s amazing how quickly this guy became politically radioactive.
This really should be the Democrats’ watergate because Blago’s actions are tantamount to treason.

If there are no viable candidates within the state, is there any opportunity to send someone in to run for the spot like Hillary did when she went to New York??? Perhaps Sarah Palin could win the seat,clean up the mess of Obama and his buddies, and launch a nice presidential run for 2012?? One can only hope.

Did you see Obama's statement on the news today?
"Now, I have to go back to work on my inauguration speech. And I worked on it until pretty late last night. But I want to say one thing to the American people. I want you to listen to me. I'm going to say this again: I did not have relations with that man, Mister Blogojevich. I never told anybody to lie, not a single time; never. These allegations are false. And I need to go back to work for the American people. Thank you."
The future first lady also issued a press release on behalf of her husband the president elect.
"The great story here for anybody willing to find it, write about it and explain it is this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president."
When did it become the in thing to trash Alan Keyes. From what I saw of his dropping in and opposing Obama for Senator from Illinois he was destroying him in debate (via Youtube).
But he had no support in Illinois and ran uphill late all the way against the Chicago Mob Machine.
That includes the whole sum of what they call “The Outfit” pols, media, local organizations.
Illinois is the state that embarrasses itself here, not Alan Keyes. I say that as the proudest resident of Hudson County, NJ the national HQ for corruption.
Our state of NJ may possibly lose its crown. It’s pretty exciting.
I’d love to see Blago appoint himself to the Senate seat. Then watch Harry Reid squirm...
I believe Mike Ditka is a republican.
Not qualified to do anything but football, but qualifications don’t seem to count anymore anyway and he has lots of name recognition.
