Breaking -- NBC News Says [New Mexico Governor] Richardson Will Get Commerce
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | November 21, 2008 | Bruce Daniels

Network's Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd reporting Obama will name his economic team Monday.

1:55pm UPDATE: The New York Times is reporting that Sen. Hillary Clinton has decided to quit her Senate seat and accept the post of Secretary of State, according to two Clinton confidants.

Senior advisers to President-elect Barack Obama told the Times this morning that the offer had not been formally accepted and no announcement would be made until after Thanksgiving, but said they were convinced the deal was ready to be sealed.

NBC News is reporting that President-elect Barack Obama will roll out his economic team on Monday and will personally announce that N.Y. Federal Reserve President Tim Geithner will replace Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Jr. and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will be his new Secretary of Commerce.

Obama reportedly will hold a question-and-answer session at the announcement Monday in an effort to reassure markets, NBC's Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell reported minutes ago.

Jake Tapper on the ABC News blog "Political Punch" reported a short time ago that Richardson was a leading candidate for the Commerce post, saying the news that Richardson had emerged as a serious contender for Commerce was first broken by Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post.

We beg to differ. The Albuquerque Journal's Washington correspondent Michael Coleman gave us the first inkling that Richardson was being considered as Commerce Secretary about the same time Cillizza did on Thursday.

That explains his “success” in NM. People in NM as a whole are very anti-business.

Change we can believe in? It sounds like more of the Clintons.

Bingo! I do believe we have a winner. That must be why they stopped the voting — cut a deal that Obama was the figurehead but he would surround himself with Clintonites. He is going to live to regret his deal with the devil.

Well, the political up side i think is that if the economy tanks further under these people, both Obamanoids (presumably the left’s best hope) and the Clintonoids are going to have a reversal of fortunes.

People in NM as a whole are very anti-business.

You had me up to that point.

What makes you say that?

I ask that, as a guy who has owned and operated many businesses in New Mexico, Was a pretty well known business consultant in New Mexico 20 years ago, and was the writer, co-producer and 'star' of the weekly New Mexico Business Report on the CBS affiliate in Albuquerque.

So, I have been in a position to be intimately familiar with the highs and the lows of the New Mexico business community for quite a while, and I have never seen an 'anti-business attitude' here any more (and probably less so) than anywhere else in the US in general.

Heck, even Richardson himself at least PRETENDS to be pro-business. That's how he conned even the normally conservative 'movers and shakers' into supporting him for Governor, twice.

It's not only diamonds and base metals that interest big mining companies and the latter are not alone in being interested in Katanga. In the delegation that the United States sent to Kinshasa on June 2 under its ambassador to the United Nations, Bill Richardson, the state department's African affairs department was represented by Marc Baas, director for Central Africa. (Susan Rice, director for African Affairs at the National Security Council, has just been appointed under secretary of state for African affairs in succession to George Moose). Baas was accompanied by a representative of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and several Defense Department officials. The mission also visited Lubumbashi and met with officials from Gecamines and provincial authorities.
AEM's sources claim it wasn't the small research reactor that General Electric installed in 1977 at the university of Kinshasa, and which ceased operating in 1990, that interested the NRC and the military men, but rather the Shinkolobwe uranium deposit. Its resources are negligible from a commercial viewpoint when weighed against those in Namibia and Niger and new discoveries like France's Cogema has just made in western Canada. They weren't negligible from the security standpoint, however. The Americans [See the June 2, 1997 delegation- Marc Baas, etc] are concerned over a visit to Katanga by the head of the Iraqi Baath party's international relations section, Shabi Al Maliki, around a year ago [1996]. He, too, showed an interest in Katanga's uranium, and last February [1997] another high-ranking Iraqi official reportedly held talks in Kinshasa with the mines minister in the last government of the Mobutu era, Banza Mukalay. The uranium is thought to have also figured in Libya's proposals in 1995 to supply oil to Zaire in exchange for ore.

AUGUST 1999 : (NIGERIA : US ENERGY SECRETARY BILL RICHARDSON VISITS--See ENRON) Bill Richardson : (Clinton Administration Energy Secretary) To help push through energy initiatives in Africa, Clinton's Energy Secretary (and Monica Lewinsky's job counselor), Bill Richardson, visited Nigeria in August 1999. "As a result of Secretary Richardson's visit to Nigeria in August, we have embarked on a bilateral cooperation program. The Department is developing an action plan with the Government of Nigeria, which will be coordinated with USAID. Cooperation could include: restructuring and privatization; rural electrification; deployment of clean energy and renewable energy technologies; promotion of energy efficiency; and development of an independent regulatory authority. This initiative, coordinated by Richardson, led to $882 million dollars in power contracts for Enron from the government of Nigeria: Enron, an oil and gas firm in Houston, has signed a power purchase agreement to supply emergency electricity to state-owned power utility Nigerian Electric Power Authority (NEPA) through 30MW power barges located on the coast of Lagos State. Enron and its Nigerian joint venture partner signed the $82 million deal with NEPA and the power ministry in the capital Abuja. Enron and the Lagos state government entered a joint venture earlier in 1999 to build an $800 million gas-powered plant with capacity for 540 Megawatt (MW) to augment supply to the city. Unfortunately for Enron, the Nigerian Government cancelled these contracts in April 2000. As a further reward for their generosity to the Democratic Party, ClintonAdministration Special Envoy Thomas Pickering hustled off to Nigeria (on the taxpayer's dime) to plead Enron's case. (Some) Well introduced businessmen

American buinessmen who will go from November 6-14 to Addis - Abeba at the instigation of the Ethio-American Trade and Investment Council (EATIC, organization close to the government Ethiopian and directed by Gezahegn Kebede) have solid support in American administration. This visit is sponsored by Osyka Corporation, an oil firm of Texas whose president, Michael F Harness, is at the same time a member of EATIC and the National Petroleum Council, an organization charged to advise the American minister of Energie Bill Richardson. Other sponsors: F.C. Schaffer & Associates, a sugar company whose president, Mina Nedelcovych, is also the owner of Corporate Council of Africa (CCA) which assembles the active American companies in Africa.

Several companies controlled by the Saudi-Ethiopic billionaire Mohamed Hussein Al Amoudi helped with the organisation of the voyage: Westar Group, which manages the interests dof Al Amoudi in Washington and which is chaired by Derige Mekonen after being directed a long time by the banker Jeff Wilson; Sheraton of Addis-Abeba whose council of administration includes the ex - American ambassador in Ethiopia Irvin Hicks and group MIDROC Ethiopia; but also the Rock Creek Corporation, an investment company controlled by Al Amoudi and chaired since 1997 by a Lebanese businessman very connected into the power circles of Washington, Elias Aburdene. Former adviser of the Franklin Bank National in Washington DC, Aburdene at the start of his accession to the head (position) of Rock Creek Corporation hired the ex - adviser to Bill Clinton for African affairs, Joseph Wilson IV. The latter had already met Mohamed Al Amoudi in 1997 at the time of a reception organized for the World Bank by Westar Group (LAW n.794). In addition to his responsibilities with the Rock Creek Corporation, Elias Aburdene is the executive chairman very influential National Association of Arab Americans. Alumnus of the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, he is also very active in the old networks of the university, where teaches the ex-under-secretary of State for African Affairs Chester A. Crocker and the American mediator between Ethiopia and Eritrea, former National Security Advisor of Bill Clinton Anthony Lake.

NOVEMBER 1999 : (JOE WILSON IS ACCOMPANIED BY MIMA NEDELCOVYCH, MOHAMMED ALAMOUDI AND OTHERS ON HIS SECOND TRIP TO AFRICA) According to the SSCI Wilson made at least one other trip to Africa That was made at his wife’s suggestion for the CIA in 1999. He made the second trip there that year as part of a trade delegation. As Just One Minute poster Rocco found these tidbits:

Mima Nedelcovych, Vice President for International Operations, F. C. Schaffer and Associates, Inc traveled with Wilson, [Mohammed] Alamoudi and others in Nov. 99, for a trade delegation.
Nedelcovych gave Jefferson campaign donations in 01, 02, and 05.
F. C. Schaffer and Associates is a small Louisiana based sugar company but the curious thing is, the donations aren’t from Schaffer, they’re from AFRKA GLOBAL/PARTNER

MAY 2002 : (SAN DIEGO , CA : PEREGRINE SYSTEMS, INC ANNOUNCES IT HAD OVERSTATED ITS EARNINGS WHILE ARTHUR ANDERSON WAS OVERSEEING ITS BOOKS—See BILL RICHARDSON, ENRON, GLOBAL CROSSING) The story is all too familiar. Several months ago, before WorldCom and in the wake of Enron and Global Crossing, Peregrine Systems, Inc., a lesser-known San Diego-based software company, announced it had overstated its earnings by $100 million — while “independent” accounting firm Arthur Andersen was overseeing the books...
...Consider the Peregrine imbroglio and one of its “outside” board members, New Mexico’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill Richardson. Upon the announcement of Peregrine’s misdeeds last May [2002], Bill Clinton’s former energy secretary [Bill Richardson] requested, through a letter to the company, an investigation into the accounting improprieties — a wise political tact and the obvious first move in beginning to distance himself from a company that would soon implode. Mr. Richardson, declaring publicly his concern as an “independent” board member, seemed to clear himself of any Peregrine taint. His letter was covered in New Mexico’s newspapers, and he stated outright, “I had no involvement because I was what was called an outside director.”
..At issue, though, is his use of the term “outside.” Mr. Richardson employed misleading statements in the manner of his former boss Bill Clinton, who, you will remember, stretched the meaning of “is” for political cover. Predictably, Mr. Richardson’s duties entailed much more than those of a casual consultant. He appears to have played a key role in a variety of management issues. According to Peregrine’s SEC filings, he joined the rest of the board in its unanimous decision to retain Arthur Andersen as the company’s auditor. After Andersen was finally junked last April [2002], Mr. Richardson and his fellow board members summarily dismissed Andersen’s replacement, KPMG, nary a month later, after the new auditor disclosed Peregrine’s infamous $100 million in overstated earnings (recently reported to be, in fact, as high as $250 million). ———— “Bill Richardson’s Enron, “ Washington Times ^ | October 1, 2002 | David N. So when they try and fund all their programs for the government slaves, how will they come up with the money when the country is broke? Does this mean we’ll tank even faster than originally planned financially and we can look forward to a republican (who?) back in the white house? Or will they drag it out to get 8 years?

Oh, my brother said things were great under the Clintons, why do people think that if there were companies going under all the time?

What happened to Barack Obama's promise of change? it was the major reason people voted for him, wanting no more of the same old Washington insiders and wanting no more Clintons.

Now Obama privides not even a little change. What other new administration provided this little change, practically no change. It's the Clintons all over again.

Whoever said Hussein was a wimp, was right. Hillary is twisting him around her finger. He caved to the Clintons, and for no reason unless they hold a copy of his real birth certificate.

Obama for Change?! hahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Well the liberals seem to be pleased as punch about the Clinton people because we all know that in the world according to them the economy was great when Clinton was in, it was Bush who ruined everything.

Yawn.

FWIW, he has notorious bimbo eruptions that make the Clintons look like amatuers.

Hillary hates him. Funny to see the two together.

This is a total joke. Obama’s big photo op yesterday was appearing at a deli in Chicago and ordering food. The AP story this morning flatly states that he doesn't want to get too close to the auto fiasco because he doesn't want it to tarnish him politically!

Barry needs to understand that the campaign is OVER and he needs to run an administration for the next 4 years.

Looks like Clinton III and Barry the Buffoon entertaining the world!

Please,... let his birth certificate keep him from the Oval Office! Pray for SCOTUS to have the strength to enforce the Constitution.

Its sort of like the organ grinder with the pet monkey. The monkey gets the admiration and the organ grinder gets the money. Looks like Clinton, Inc. found a sexier “show piece” than Bill and they are back to keeping the quarters.

This suggests it may not have been Bill as much as his mob that screwed things up so badly in the 90’s. Bill could have been the front man.

Problem for us is that Bill is one heck of a lot smarter than Barry.

Your brother seems to forget or never understood, under BJ, the Hill was controlled by the Republicans who keeped him in check, and allowed for him to brag how he balanced the budget, while he cut back on military expenditures due to the perception we where at peace with the Russians.
And due to the efforts during the Reagen years, our economy continued to grow, so when GHB took over, the tide was still high. BJ left his broom closet with a growing recession. GWB continued to with the help of the Republican congress keep things in check even with the two wars being initiated, and the economy continued to grow.
