Network's Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd reporting Obama will name his economic team Monday.
1:55pm UPDATE: The New York Times is reporting that Sen. Hillary Clinton has decided to quit her Senate seat and accept the post of Secretary of State, according to two Clinton confidants.
Senior advisers to President-elect Barack Obama told the Times this morning that the offer had not been formally accepted and no announcement would be made until after Thanksgiving, but said they were convinced the deal was ready to be sealed.
NBC News is reporting that President-elect Barack Obama will roll out his economic team on Monday and will personally announce that N.Y. Federal Reserve President Tim Geithner will replace Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Jr. and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will be his new Secretary of Commerce.
Obama reportedly will hold a question-and-answer session at the announcement Monday in an effort to reassure markets, NBC's Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell reported minutes ago.
Jake Tapper on the ABC News blog "Political Punch" reported a short time ago that Richardson was a leading candidate for the Commerce post, saying the news that Richardson had emerged as a serious contender for Commerce was first broken by Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post.
We beg to differ. The Albuquerque Journal's Washington correspondent Michael Coleman gave us the first inkling that Richardson was being considered as Commerce Secretary about the same time Cillizza did on Thursday.

CHANGE
Worth a repeat.
Yeah.
My comment is what do we have to do to convince Obama to choose McCain for a position? And a few other RINO’s we need to get rid of. A least then there would be some good to come out of this third Clinton term.
I think it’s easier to put his cabinet together than it would be to actually figure out how to solve the massive problems we have. He can hem and haw and pick and choose, and make it look like he’s actually doing something.
Another Klintonoid. Back to the 90s. The Klintons are coming, the Klintons are coming.
Has he checked their birth certificates?
He should wear a kevlar helmet — make sure the back of the skull is covered.
I wonder what he will do with Jennifer, the blond governor who wrecked Michigan’s economy? I thought she would be put in charge of wrecking the U.S. economy?
Being the green President he promised, Obama has simply recycled all the debris that Clinton left behind in 2000 and presto, we have a “new and changed” administration.
I had to struggle through it, her style of writing I feel is for people in the colder climates that must endure long winters.
No kidding!! For all of Ubama’s “John McCain will be Bush’s third term” he certainly is working hard at a Clinton Redux!!!
This guy...THIS GUY is shameless. Never seen a a politician whore himself out for one cabinet position or another —anything will do— like he has done for over a yr. He apparently feels it’s his birthright to secure a high level appointment in every Dim Administration. As Larry Eagleberger said, he really isn’t very intelligent and isn’t deserving of any such position. I’m tired of seeing his blockhead forever popping up on the talking picture box giving his half-baked opinion on anything, which he seemingly barely grasps the complexities of at any rate. I may go Elvis on my tv...

One of the best parts of the wrong side winning is all the crappy governors that get “promoted”. AZ gets to replace Nappy now NM gets to replace Richardson, it’s kind of nice actually.
I waiting to see where Jamie Gorelick pops up.
Other than being totally corrupt, Richardson did a few good things for New Mexico. The fear now is who will replace him, and what level of corrupt the replacement will be. You know the replacement will come from the Valley of the Kings.
Is there any job that Richardson’s had that he hasn’t screwed up royally?
Long long past his level of incompetency.
In AZ we get lucky, the SecState replaces the gov, we’re going GOP again.
So, why do you think he is in such a rush?
I don’t think Smilin’ Joe is going to willingly ‘resign’—I’m thinking something along the lines of what happened to let’s say, Paul Wellstone??
Just think—years ago, Wellstone was in a contest against Norm Coleman that could have shifted the balance of power in the Senate...oh, wait, that would mean something might happen to Al Franken according to this scenario...
Never mind! Still don’t think Joe “Foot in Mouth” Biden will willingly give up VPship. Expect some mysterious ailment or another to strike him not too far into the
first 100 days of PEO’s admin!
Don’t you mean Hilary Clinton’s third term
It’s starting to look like the agreement made between Hillary and Obama when the primaries were over went something like this...”You don’t want a blood bath on your hands at the convention....you will appoint the people I want for your cabinet and you will have me as SOS. You will back off Bill and you will openly praise me.”
