Network's Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd reporting Obama will name his economic team Monday.
1:55pm UPDATE: The New York Times is reporting that Sen. Hillary Clinton has decided to quit her Senate seat and accept the post of Secretary of State, according to two Clinton confidants.
Senior advisers to President-elect Barack Obama told the Times this morning that the offer had not been formally accepted and no announcement would be made until after Thanksgiving, but said they were convinced the deal was ready to be sealed.
NBC News is reporting that President-elect Barack Obama will roll out his economic team on Monday and will personally announce that N.Y. Federal Reserve President Tim Geithner will replace Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Jr. and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will be his new Secretary of Commerce.
Obama reportedly will hold a question-and-answer session at the announcement Monday in an effort to reassure markets, NBC's Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell reported minutes ago.
Jake Tapper on the ABC News blog "Political Punch" reported a short time ago that Richardson was a leading candidate for the Commerce post, saying the news that Richardson had emerged as a serious contender for Commerce was first broken by Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post.
We beg to differ. The Albuquerque Journal's Washington correspondent Michael Coleman gave us the first inkling that Richardson was being considered as Commerce Secretary about the same time Cillizza did on Thursday.

I'm struck by this comment of his on the Aircraft repair facility:
"I'm thrilled for the people of Roswell that we were able to make this deal happen,” Governor Richardson said. “These are high-wage jobs – approaching $16 per hour – that should provide a significant boost to the economy in Roswell.”
I have to pay quite a bit more than that per hour to get a reliable babysitter.
The guy that rakes up pine needles for some of the folks in this neighborhood charges more than that.
(Although I suppose the aircraft company people get some other benefits.)

Richardson is now going to be the Secretary of COMMERCE????
The guy has NEVER run a business. He’s never worked in a business. His only tangential experience with business was sitting on a couple of boards and collecting a big, fat paycheck. HE’S A CAREER POLITICIAN. Can someone please tell me HOW this guy is going to do ANYTHING to help American businesses?
“get commerce”...well I’m sure that about sums up Obama’s and most Dems. attitude toward business..
With Richardson going to occupy the chair in his Commerce Dept. office, I'm waiting to see where Monica Lewinski will pop up.

Who else would he have picked? Some low life Chicago pol (OK, besides, Emmanuel)? Some twenty year old from ACORN or the New Party? The guys he shot hoops with at the law firm while he couldn’t decide whether he really wanted to make partner?
He won’t touch anyone serious from Illinois- Governor Blago his admin are in meltdown mode.

It appears to be a political agenda, perhaps times will get financially tough enough to call for martial law and strike the 8 year presidential limit from the Constitution.
I have to look on the bright side—he’s not my governor anymore...

well it all fits. They even have Bill Clintons defense lawyer from his impeachment as white house counsel for Obama now.

Isn’t Commerce still over the census department? That’s what Richardson wants — to order the counting of illegals in the 2010 census. People who sat out the Nov. 4 election didn’t think about counting the illegals in 2010. They cut off their noses to spite their lack of brains!
