FBI Warns of Potential Terror Attacks

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security today issued an analytical "note" to U.S. law-enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida terrorists have in the past expressed interest in attacking public buildings using a dozen suicide bombers each carrying 20 kilograms of explosives.

Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have "no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States." The FBI and DHS analysts said they were releasing the note because "it is important for local authorities and building owners and operators to be aware of potential attack tactics."

According to the note obtained by NBC News, a "recently discovered audio recording of al-Qa‘ida training sessions conducted several years ago provides instruction to potential suicide terrorists on seizing a publicly accessible building and damaging or destroying it with explosive charges." After flight delay, man accused of spraying powder in plane
http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2008/10/after_delay_man.html ^ | October 7, 2008 | Globe Staff
Posted on October 7, 2008 11:01:31 PM PDT by Morgana

A man whose original flight was delayed seven hours is facing disorderly conduct charges today because he allegedly sprayed fellow passengers with foot powder after landing in Boston. “This is what your airline gets for treating me bad,” Arthur Nicolson allegedly yelled, according to a State Police report, as he shook a 7-ounce bottle of Dr. Scholl’s Foot Powder on other travelers as he ran off the plane. The 42-year-old Framingham resident was arrested in Terminal A at Logan International Airport shortly after US Airways Flight 67 landed at 3:30 p.m.

Nicolson had originally been booked the day before on a flight, which was delayed seven hours because of mechanical problems. After finally boarding the flight on Sunday at 7 p.m., Nicolson allegedly became irritated and told the crew he had pneumonia, according to the police report. Nicolson was removed from the aircraft and booked on the first flight Monday morning.

Flight 67 left Las Vegas at 7:25 a.m. After landing in Boston, Nicolson allegedly sprayed the foot powder and then overran other passengers as he fled the plane. According to the police report, Nicolson told investigators that he sprayed the powder to get back at US Airways because he was “held hostage” at the Las Vegas airport for 10 hours, pulled off the plane without his bags, and was not given a voucher for food or a hotel. Nicolson was arraigned today in East Boston Municipal Court where he pleaded not guilty to charges of disorderly conduct, interfering with the operation of an aircraft, and disorderly conduct. He was released on personal recognizance.

“Obama Wages War on Freedom of Speech”
by Robert Spencer
10/08/2008

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Last week the Governor of Missouri, Matt Blunt, issued a statement on the Obama campaign’s “abusive use of Missouri law enforcement.” What was striking about the allegations Blunt made was the eerie parallel between the Obama camp’s activity and the Organization of the Islamic Conference’s efforts to stifle all criticism of Islam and destroy the freedom of speech — also by means of legal intimidation — at the UN and elsewhere.”

Mexican soldiers find stolen planes on ranch
5 days ago

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5h8UqCXAcg-0D2bhuFlZpnO_8BVDQD93J42U01

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican soldiers have found five small planes that were stolen after they were seized in an anti-drug operation.

Security officials say the planes were found on a ranch in the Pacific coast state of Sinaloa, a hotbed of drug trafficking.

The federal Attorney General’s Office said earlier this week that 20 heavily armed men tied up a local policeman guarding the aircraft and flew the five Cessnas out of an airfield in the town of Navolato.

The planes allegedly were used to fly seeds and fertilizer to a marijuana-growing region.

The Attorney General’s Office joined the Defense Department in Friday’s announcement of the planes’ discovery.

Coalition Kills Two, Captures 17 in Iraq Operations

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Oct. 8, 2008 – Coalition forces in Iraq today killed two insurgents and captured 12 suspects, including two wanted men, during operations to break up terrorist networks in the northern city of Mosul, military officials reported.

The troops were targeting a suspected al-Qaida in Iraq foreign facilitator in the area when a man confronted the group, officials said. Despite repeated warnings to back away, the man continued to approach and reached for a coalition member’s weapon. Perceiving hostile intent, coalition forces opened fire, killing the man.

At a second location in Mosul, forces surrounded a building and called for its occupants to surrender, officials said. A man appeared from the building and proceeded toward coalition troops, they said. After repeated warnings, the man continued his advance and was killed by coalition forces who perceived hostile intent.

In Baghdad today, coalition forces captured a wanted man believed to be a long-time member of the city’s car-bomb network, officials said. Reports suggest the man is associated with another suspected terrorist captured in Baghdad on Aug. 11. An additional suspect was detained during the operation.

In other operations today:

— Coalition forces captured a wanted man in Samarra, about 65 miles northwest of Baghdad. The man is suspected of being a member of an al-Qaida in Iraq cell in central Iraq and is associated with other al-Qaida in Iraq leaders.

— Near Kifri, about 60 miles southeast of Kirkuk, coalition forces captured three suspects believed to be part of a group responsible for roadside bombs in the area. Troops seized multiple rifles, grenades and military-style assault vests in the operation.

— Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division’s 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, captured a suspected member of an Iranian-backed terrorist network operating in southern Baghdad’s Rashid district They also confiscated an AK-47 assault rifle, a pistol and various bomb-making materials during the raid in the Hadar community.

In other recent operations:

— Iraqi police and U.S. soldiers assigned to the 4th Infantry Division’s 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, found a munitions cache yesterday in the Jazair community of southern Baghdad’s Rashid district while preparing their combat outpost for transition to the Iraqi security forces. The cache consisted of an artillery round, two fuses and more than 100 anti-aircraft rounds. An explosive ordnance disposal team was called in to dispose of the munitions. Later, Iraqi police acting on a citizen’s tip found 11 80 mm mortar rounds hidden along a road northwest of Baghdad.

— On Oct. 6, soldiers assigned to the 10th Mountain Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team captured a suspected member of an Iranian-backed terrorist group in eastern Baghdad’s New Baghdad area, and coalition forces and Iraqi police captured three suspected terrorists in southern Baghdad’s Rashid district.
