FBI Warns of Potential Terror Attacks

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security today issued an analytical "note" to U.S. law-enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida terrorists have in the past expressed interest in attacking public buildings using a dozen suicide bombers each carrying 20 kilograms of explosives.

Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have "no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States." The FBI and DHS analysts said they were releasing the note because "it is important for local authorities and building owners and operators to be aware of potential attack tactics."

According to the note obtained by NBC News, a "recently discovered audio recording of al-Qa‘ida training sessions conducted several years ago provides instruction to potential suicide terrorists on seizing a publicly accessible building and damaging or destroying it with explosive charges." “Link between child porn and terrorism”

SNIPPET: “In fact, one of the most popular google search terms that directs users to this site is ‘hijab sex’. Most of the users entering this search term are from Turkey.”

(TIMES ONLINE co.uk)

October 17, 2008

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A link between terrorism plots and hardcore child pornography is becoming clear after a string of police raids in Britain and across the Continent, an investigation by The Times has discovered. Images of child abuse have been found during Scotland Yard antiterrorism swoops and in big inquiries in Italy and Spain.

Secret coded messages are being embedded into child pornographic images, and paedophile websites are being exploited as a secure way of passing information between terrorists.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Concerns have already been expressed at Cabinet minister level about the risk of vulnerable Muslim youths being exploited by older men.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “It is not clear whether the terrorists were more interested in the material for personal gratification or were drawn to child porn networks as a secure means of sending messages. In one case fewer than a dozen images were found; in another, 40,000.

British security sources confirmed that such a link had been discovered in several cases. They noted the contradiction between people supposedly devoted to theocracy and Islamic fundamentalism and their use of child pornography. “It shows that these people are very confused,” a source said. “Here they are hating Western decadence but actually making use of it and finding that they enjoy this stuff.””

Terrorists’ Twin Tower Images, Secret Porn Messages
ABC News ^ | 5/8/03
Posted on May 8, 2003 9:52:03 AM PDT by areafiftyone

ROME, May 8 — Investigators analyzing computers seized from an Italian mosque say they have uncovered images of the twin towers that were downloaded just days before the 9/11 attacks, as well as a trove of pornographic photos they believe were used to conceal coded messages.

On Sept. 4, 2001, according to investigators, pictures of the World Trade Center were saved as temporary files on one of the computers at the Via Quaranta mosque in Milan — the mosque frequented by Abdelkader Mahmoud Es Sayed, also known as Abu Saleh, an Egyptian currently on trial in absentia in Milan on charges of international terrorism.

Court documents from the ongoing Milan trial, cited by the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, say that police discovered images of the World Trade Center along with numerous files that contained images downloaded from the Internet of political leaders such as President Bush, Secretary of State Colin Powell and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, as well as large quantities of pornographic material, also taken from the Internet.

The images, investigators said, had been manipulated — their colors modified — before being sent back onto the Web.

Police believe this was one of the ways that al Qaeda cell members communicated, encoding, in many instances, pornographic images that were were traded back and forth, an investigative source confirmed.

The practice is known as steganography.

Quebec man’s Web messages urge Al-Qa’ida to attack Canada
Canwest News Service ^ | October 17, 2008 | STEWART BELL
Posted on October 17, 2008 2:58:43 PM PDT by george76

A Quebec man has posted messages on the Internet encouraging Al-Qa’ida to attack Canada, the latest in a series of similar sentiments that are worrying counterterrorism officials.

The author of the messages, who uses the pseudonym Altar, praised terrorist leader Osama bin Laden and asked why Al-Qa’ida was focusing its efforts only on Europe instead of Canada.

“Allah is great and may Allah bless Sheikh bin Laden. May the sword held by the hand of Al-Qa’ida hit not only Europe, but hit all our enemies. Wherever they are,” he wrote in a Sept. 25 posting.

“Me, I live in Canada and the Canadian government supports the Americans. The government of Canada supports Israel. Canadian soldiers are sent to Afghanistan and Iraq. Now it’s Canada’s turn,” the author said.

A copy of the message, posted to a French-based Internet forum called Minbarsos, was found by the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors terrorist websites. However, it appeared to have been removed from the Minbarsos site yesterday.

In his online biography, Altar writes that he is a Sunni Muslim who lives in Quebec and that “I want to chase the non-Muslims from Canada. Only their deaths will make Islam triumphant. God is Great.”

The message concludes: “May Allah guide us to always defend our religion. Whether the Crusaders be in Iraq or in Ottawa, the sword of Islam will fall on their head. God is Great.”

U.S., Canadian Yemenites Demand ICC Trial For Yemenite Cleric

Over 100 U.S. and Canadian citizens of Yemenite origin have sent letters to U.S. congressmen and Canadian MPs demanding that they pressure Yemen to extradite Yemenite cleric Abd Al-Majid Al-Zindani, head of Imam University, which is close to Al-Qaeda, to the International Criminal Court, and to have him tried for international terrorism crimes.

The letter criticized the Yemen regime for alleged ties to Al-Qaeda, and called on the U.S. and Canada to continue with the war on terror.

Coalition Captures Suspects, Seizes Weapons

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Oct. 17, 2008 – Coalition forces in Iraq today captured two wanted men and one additional suspect during operations targeting terrorist networks in Baghdad and Kirkuk, military officials reported.

Troops operating in Kirkuk captured a man wanted for alleged ties to al-Qaida in Iraq networks in the Sulayman Bak area. Additionally, he is believed to be associated with bomb operations in the region, officials said.

In Baghdad, forces captured another wanted man who intelligence reports suggest is a facilitator for a terrorist group associated with al-Qaida in Iraq, as well as an additional suspect, officials said.

In other operations, Iraqi police yesterday shot a suicide car bomber at a checkpoint outside of a police station near Balad. Police engaged the vehicle, based on a previous description of it, causing the driver to swerve into a concrete barrier. The car exploded on impact, wounding four police officers.

On Oct. 15, soldiers assigned to the 10th Mountain Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team captured a man in eastern Baghdad who is suspected of being associated with foreign terrorist groups in Iraq.

In other operations this week, coalition and Iraqi forces seized multiple weapons caches in and around Baghdad. The U.S. soldiers are with the 25th Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 14th Infantry Regiment, and the 10th Mountain Division’s 4th Brigade Combat Team, 66th Armor Regiment.

Their seizures included a rocket-propelled grenade and launcher, a 155 mm round, 20 AK=47 assault rifles, multiple grenades and ammunition and explosives. Coalition and Iraqi security forces have seized more than 2,100 weapons and munitions caches in the area, officials said.

Under Sec Levey Statement on Australia’s
Implementation of Sanctions Against Iran

Washington, DC—Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey released the following statement today following Australia’s designation of individuals and entities involved in Iranian proliferation activities, including Iranian state-owned banks, Melli and Saderat.

“The U.S. Government welcomes the Australian government’s imposition of financial and travel sanctions on individuals and entities involved in Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, including freezing the assets of Bank Melli and Bank Saderat. We applaud Australia for taking steps to further isolate Iran and we encourage countries around the world to take similar steps.

“Australia’s actions are consistent with United Nations Security Council Resolutions on Iran, including UNSCR 1803, which calls on Member States to exercise vigilance over activities between their financial institutions and all banks domiciled in Iran, and in particular Banks Melli and Saderat.

“Further, these actions are consistent with guidance from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which has already issued three statements warning that the deficiencies in Iran’s anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing regimes represent significant vulnerabilities in the international financial system.

“The Iranian people are paying the price for the regime’s isolating behavior and economic mismanagement. Iranian businesses have been cut off from the international financial system and the Iranian economy is burdened with spiraling unemployment and an inflation rate approaching 30 percent.

“As the world continues to stand united against Iran’s defiance, Iran’s leaders are inflicting hardship on the Iranian people rather than allowing them the opportunities and prosperity that reintegration into the global community would bring.”

Treasury Responds to FATF’s Call for Strengthened Measures Against Iran

Washington, DC—The U.S. Department of the Treasury today issued the following response to a statement issued by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Iran during its plenary meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Today’s statement by the FATF marks the fourth time in the past year that the organization has warned the world of the serious threat posed by Iran’s lack of a sufficient anti-money laundering and counterterrorist financing regime.

FATF expressed particular concern about Iran’s lack of effort to combat terrorist financing and declared that this continues “to pose a serious threat to the integrity of the international financial system.” FATF further declared that “urgent action” by Iran to address these concerns is necessary. As a result, FATF called for countries throughout the world to strengthen measures to protect their financial sectors from these risks posed by Iran.

The United States has repeatedly expressed its deep concerns about Iran’s financial and material support to deadly terrorist groups. We have designated Iranian entities – including Iranian state-owned Bank Saderat – under our domestic authority, Executive Order 13224, which targets terrorists and those providing financial, technological, or material support to terrorists or acts of terrorism.

Consistent with FATF’s action, we will be employing additional actions to target the risk of terrorist financing emanating from Iran. We encourage all countries to implement measures to protect the financial system from this urgent threat.

The FATF is the foremost standard setting body on preventing money laundering and terrorist financing. FATF’s statement further evidences Iran’s ongoing defiance of the international community.

Sustained action against Iran by the FATF, United Nations Security Council, European Union and others verifies that the international community’s grave concerns about Iran’s conduct transcend borders and politics.

Movie shows ‘war you don’t know about’

PREMIERE: “The Third Jihad,” a documentary about radical Islam, was screened at Harkins theater in Scottsdale. Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, left, narrated the film and was on hand to take questions after the showing.

By Ari Cohn

“We all know about terrorism. This is the war you don’t know about,” Dr. Zuhdi Jasser intones from the movie screen over images of radical Islamists burning the American flag after Sept. 11.

Jasser, who lives in Scottsdale and practices medicine in Phoenix, is the narrator of the documentary “The Third Jihad: Radical Islam’s Vision for America,” which opened in selected cities across the country Thursday night. The film contends that there is more to jihad than acts of violence.

There’s also “cultural jihad,” in which radical groups use laws and rights given to them by free societies in a duplicitous way to try to overthrow those societies, Jasser said. The vehicles for cultural jihad in the U.S. include Saudi government funding of Middle Eastern studies departments at universities, radical teachings in mosques and prisons, and hate-filled textbooks in Islamic schools, he said.

This is the “third jihad,” according to the film. The first was when Muslim armies spread from Arabia throughout the Middle East, North Africa and Spain. The second jihad happened later, when Islamic armies toppled Constantinople and spread into Europe, India, and further into Africa.

Jasser, a regular worshipper at the Islamic Center of the Northeast Valley in Scottsdale, an ex-lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy and former physician to the U.S. Congress, urged viewers not to confuse the religion of Islam with political Islamism - a movement that he said seeks to establish governments ruled by Islamic law called Shariah. Countries that enforce Shariah are “human rights disasters,” he said.

The silent majority of Muslims are not radical and love the U.S., Jasser said.

“I’m also a Muslim and I’ve dedicated my life to fighting the threat of radical Islam,” he said.

Jasser and six other Scottsdale Muslims formed the nonprofit American Islamic Forum for Democracy in 2003 to foster an alternative school of thought to Islamism.

Jasser is not without his detractors. In 2005, the Arizona Muslim Voice newspaper published an editorial cartoon depicting Jasser as a dog dismembering and devouring another Muslim. His views have been criticized by members of his own mosque.

The Scottsdale film premier at Harkins Scottsdale 101, at Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road, attracted about 300 people, including Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., who serves on the nation’s Armed Forces and Judiciary committees. Franks said he believes Jasser is dedicated to the cause of human freedom and peace.

“I have just the highest affection for (Jasser),” he said. “If there were just a few more of him, we’d have a chance of defeating this sooner.”

The film opens with scenes from the 2004 massacre of schoolchildren in Beslan, Russia, by Chechen terrorists.Franks said he visited Beslan soon after the massacre.

“This film was in my judgement very accurate,” he said. “Terrorism and the murder of innocents does not serve anyone on Earth and it does not serve any God that is real.”

Brent Lowder, a partner in Frontline Strategies LLC, represented the nonprofit Clarion Fund, which produced the film. He said the turnout for the free Scottsdale screening was heavy.

“We had to move to a larger theater,” Lowder said.

The Clarion Fund describes itself as a nonpartisan organization aimed at educating Americans about national security issues, particularly about the threat of radical Islam.

Lowder said the U.S. should start translating the books that established the foundation for American democracy by thinkers like Thomas Jefferson into Middle Eastern languages and putting them into the region, just as the Saudi government attempts to influence thought in the U.S.
