Al-Qaeda Draws New Recruits Via Internet

Al-Qaeda is using the Internet to recruit vulnerable young people to its terrorist network, according to a programme aired on Saudi Arabian TV late on Tuesday.

Umm Osama, the founder of al-Qaeda's first women-only website, al-Khansa, joined several others on the programme to discuss how they renounced jihadist ideology.

Among those who sought a response to this question was an imam from the Medina mosque, Saleh Ibn Awad al-Mudamsi, and the father of a young al-Qaeda suspect held in an Iraqi prison. Read More

ADDING to post no. 1071:

Let’s recap.

We looked at an article about underwear (specifically it’s underpants and briefs) bombs; but remember there are bra bombs, too.

Here’s a video with female suicider detonating her bra bomb in an office complex.

Hamas: Intensify Jihad Operations In West Bank, Jerusalem

In a communiqué marking the israa wal-mi’araj, the night the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven from Jerusalem, Hamas called on the armed Palestinian factions to intensify jihad operations in the West Bank and Jerusalem, in order to “save Al-Aqsa Mosque” and teach the enemy a painful lesson.

Article In IRGC Weekly To Israel: Don’t Touch Hizbullah Leaders

A columnist in the IRGC weekly Sobh-e Sadeq wrote that Hizbullah had not yet avenged the assassination of Imad Mughniya, and warned Israel against assassinating senior Hizbullah officials, saying that “such an unconsidered step will make the situation worse.”

“Inside the CIA’s Dysfunctional Intelligence Culture”
By Jamie Glazov
FrontPageMagazine.com | Friday, August 01, 2008

INTERVIEW SNIPPET: “The CIA has proven virulently resistant to reform and I believe it should be broken up and the parts assigned to organizations that already have clear missions and defined chains of command. CIA offices and personnel operating within the United States should be transferred to the FBI. The CIA was never intended to be a domestic spy agency. The FBI is measured and held accountable by its ability to catch criminals, and this accountability provides the motivation for the FBI to perform. CIA embassy activities overseas should be assigned to the US Department of State. The State Department is designed to handle diplomacy. Much of what the CIA now does in its embassies involves diplomacy, such as handling relationships with liaison services.

Overseas human intelligence collection programs should be given to the US military. The fundamental motivation of the American military—to win wars and to protect the lives of its soldiers—will give the motivation to ensure that its case officers provide the necessary intelligence and do not become distracted by soft targets or by designing programs meant to look busy and spend money. The US military already has a large corps of trained case officers, graduates of the CIA’s own training course.

FP: Ishmael Jones, thank you for joining Frontpage Interview.

Jones: Thank you very much.”

ISF detain suspected AQI financier, 7 others in Diyala province

Multi-National Corps – Iraq PAO

BALAD, Iraq – Iraq Security Forces detained a suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq financier and seven others in separate operations in central Iraq July 29-30.

The 5th Iraqi Army Division detained a suspected AQI financier in as-Sadiyah, approximately 116 km northeast of Baghdad, July 30. The suspect is believed to be an AQI financier and facilitator in the Lake Hamrin region. Reports indicate local business owners gave the suspect large sums of protection money each month to ensure their immunity from criminal attacks. The money is said to fund terrorist operations. The man is also said to be involved in attacks against Iraqi Security and Coalition forces. Three other suspected terrorists were detained during the operation.

In another operation, Iraqi Special Operations Forces detained four suspected AQI cell members in Tahwila, approximately 55 km northwest of Baghdad, July 29. One of the detainees is believed to be part of a cell responsible for coordinating the movement of weapons and people between the Diyala and Udaim River Valleys.

These operations were conducted to reduce AQI’s influence in the Diyala area where intimidation tactics have allowed AQI to enjoy relative freedom of movement. Reports indicate many of the AQI leaders are fleeing Diyala province as a result of recent ISF operations in the area.

RR, this just arrived in FRmail:

“Limbaugh has said that, yet unconfirmed, the US military may have killed the #2 leader of al-Qaeda, al-Zawahiri. For all intents and purposes he is or was their maximum leader, as he is, or was, a highly educated physician from Egypt, unlike Osama bin Laden, who is more a spiritual leader.”
