A possible tornado has struck the Litle (spelling from site?) Sioux Scout Camp in Iowa. Very large response is being reported by media. Large number of injuries.
Prayers on the way for all involved.
I am a also scout leader. My youngest son goes for his Eagle Board of Review next Monday night.
This thread is just breaking my heart. Here on the Left Coast the leadership training is called NYLT(National Youth Leader Training). I thought that it was a nationwide program. Haven’t heard of this other program that the camp was using for their leadership training, but perhaps it is a local program.
The staffer said that if they hadn’t been watching lightening at the time they would’ve had no warning at all. He said the weather radios weren’t giving any information that was of use at the time. They actually saw the funnel cloud forming and were able to sound the camp’s sirens. The staffer’s name I believe is Thomas White, 18-years-old. They had just reviewed First Aid procedures and such yesterday with a mock first-aid exercise.
One shelter out of two on the camp was directly hit.
Thank you - yes I try to stay above some of the garbage some parents toss around - it’s all about the boys. My days of earning badges are long over (square knots are what I can get) - after my son bridges to Boy Scouts, I will take on the silver epaulets and join the District leadership.
This is for you as well Mr. Silverback. Bless you.
Great reports. Looking over mine, they are all mispelled in the rush.
Looks like the storm is weakening somewhat according to reports. Headed to bed on that good news.
Prayers for all!
Just 18 years old, still in shock. Father and brother met him during the interview. Two shelters/strong buildings -- kids in one, "Green" o.k. "Red" was hit and destroyed. He took shelter in a ditch, got up and went to admin and got first aid kit and went to help. Saw those that had died, many "minor" injuries (broken nose, limb) but major too.
Amen! Thank you for including the rescuers! God, please keep
them safe as they go about their hazardous duty toward the
ones who have suffered and are frightened.
Agreed, and praying with you as well.
They interviewed the staffer’s father and like he said - the emotional scars even for those not physically injured are going to be very hard to overcome, and it’s going to take some time. You could tell that the 18-year-old they were interviewing was in shock.
So, prayers will continue for all affected, and all those attending to this disaster as requested by this young man...
It’s looking like the line of storms has drifted far enough east now that we’re all clear here.
Prayers continue for everyone else in the path tonight, and for the unfortunate folks in Des Moines and elsewhere who are going to be eventually getting a bunch more water they most definitely DON’T need.
And of course, for the families who lost their precious youngsters tonight...
My heart was breaking for him as they were interviewing him. I don’t think he’s processed any of what he saw - he still had that adrenaline rush going it seemed. Can’t even imagine what he and the others went through...
That was quite an interview, didn’t time it but had to be 5-7 minutes long.
This is a live chaser on the storm west of Salina.

Lots of noise...and darkness, but for those interested in that kind of stuff.
Now headed to bed.
Eternal God,
the hours of both day and night are yours and to you the darkness is no threat.
Be present, we pray,
with those who labor in these hours of night,
especially those who watch and work on behalf of others.
Grant them diligence in their service,
courage in danger,
and competence in emergencies.
Help them to meet the needs of others with confidence and compassion,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Off a chaser board, tornado hit Salina, KS including a nursing home.
Replaying the interview on Channel 3 now
Called my folks and friends back home. First responders from around the area are there.
Prayers up.
Oh my Lord...
Thanks for that link... I’m going to be taking a break here too. It’s been a REALLY long day for me.
