It hasn't gotten much comment yet, but in his interview on Fox last night, Fred Thompson rather emphatically told Focus on the Family chief James Dobson to take a hike. Host Sean Hannity asked Thompson about Dobson, who has attacked Thompson and made it clear he would not support a Thompson candidacy. "Don't read too much into the Dobson thing," Thompson told Hannity, continuing:
A gentleman who has never met me, who has never talked to me, I've never talked to him on the phone. I did have one of his aides call me up and kind of apologize, the first time he attacked me and said I wasn't a Christian…
I don't know the gentleman. I do know that I have a lot of people who are of strong faith and are involved in the same organizations that he is in, that I've met with, Jeri and I both have met with, and I like to think that we have some strong friendships and support there…
Hannity then asked: "Would you want to have a conversation with Dr. Dobson? Do you think that might help?"
I have no idea. I don't particularly care to have a conversation with him. If he wants to call up and apologize again, that's ok with me. But I'm not going to dance to anybody's tune.
no doubt...divide and conquer....is in play now. Amazing how well most fall into the trap. The old media would be proud of each of the divided and conquered. An old game in a WAR America cannot afford to lose.
Dobson belongs to the creepy, authoritarian side. He drives voters away from conservative values.
Clarifications are not original comments. The original comment was clear. His explanation is backpedaling.
While Mr. Dobson is admirable in his Focus on the Family and his personal faith-his attempt to elevate himself as a final arbitor of what a persons faith is and a kingmaker is pretty crass.

Dobson in his little hissy fit is going to insure that a Dem is the next president.

I suspect he would treat them with a good deal of deference as they didn’t declare him to “not be a Christian”.
I see you’re not interested in understanding the truth, but are content with the cliche of a high-profile Christian being a demagogue.
Why so eager to believe the MSM, which has demonstrated time and again that they hate Christians and hate Republicans. Where’s your discernment? Can’t you see that the MSM is trying their best to divide us by misrepresenting high-profile Christians like Dobson?
I like Dr. Dobson but Fred does make a good point. We need to be more discerning about comments we make. However, I know Dobson is a sincere Christian so I can forgive him for making a boo-boo.

Excellent comparison. I really hope that every single person on this thread that is praising Thompson (so am I) remembers their reaction when they decide is ok to accuse other posters of not being a "true Christian" because their views of a candidate may differ.
Somehow I doubt it though. Maybe I will book mark this thread, and just link it everyone says "Mitt is not a true Christian", or "Rudy is a CINO" etc.
Good for Fred, maybe this will help us all put the notion of "True Christianity" behind us.

Have you or have you not heard leftists use that shortened version to justify not judging behaviors as right and wrong, productive or destructive? That’s the biggest (and only) sin to a leftist - judging someone’s behaviorial choices, though they don’t seem to think it’s a sin to hate conservative/traditional values.
Bott radio had a speaker on about a month ago that brought up the fact that the most oft-quoted bible verse used to be John 3:16, and now it is the “judge not” (without the “same measure”) verse.
That's one reason Guiliani can't win, hopefully not the nomination, and certainly not the presidency (though I'd hold my nose and vote for him over Hillary, enough Christian voters would stay home or go for a third party candidate that he wouldn't win).
Sure the MSM is trying to split the GOP, we know their motives. The question is why is Dobson acting as an accomplice?
(BTW: Duncan Hunter will make a fine SecDef in the Thompson administration.) ^_^

Did you see posted the letter Regan wrote nearly 30 years ago slamming Richard Viguerie (another Fred basher) “and his ilk”(direct quote) for trying to set him up and use him. ( Iam going to find this letter and post it when I get home from work tonight. If you find it sooner, please do so as well.)
I think this was a “Viguerie moment” for FDT in which he, like Reagan, showed that he was not going to dance like a puppet on a string. This and his defense of Rush yesterday represent a sea change in the campaign IMHO.

If someone that has never met you, said they have never heard you profess your faith in Christ and therefore assumes you are not a Christian, how would you respond? Thompson said nothing wrong, and Dobson still owes Thompson an apology.
Real classy there, Dobson. I think Fred's response is appropriate under the circumstances. If Dobson wants to extend an olive branch, I'm sure Fred would rethink his stance.
Then he’ll lose.
It was STUPID of Thompson, even if you don’t agree with Dobson. He’s already “iffy” to a significant part of his base, not convinced that he’s “with” them — a part that’s been tricked and screwed often before.
Only thing that it would have cost him to say, “Sure, I’d be happy to talk to James Dobson. He’s done wonderful work for America’s families, and I’m sure we’d find that we share the same core values” — I say, the only thing it would cost him is his PRIDE.

Satan must be delighted with how Rev. Dobson got a real case of hummin’-gator (that’s when you let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird ass!). It’s statements like this, made in this holier-than-thou tone, that make Christians such and easy target for Lefties.
I admire Rev. Dobson, but he needs to understand that along with is widespread recognition comes a large dose of responsibility to use that recognition in a way that builds up, not tears down, the Christian faith.
I don’t know if Fred Thompson is a Christian or not. I know for a fact that if Mitt Romney is the Mormon they say he is that he is not a Christian in the same way Billy Graham is a Christian, or the Pope is a Christian.
Frankly, where Fred Thompson will spend eternity is of little consequence to me when it comes to my support of him for office. On a personal level I am VERY concerned about where he will spend eternity, as I am about any human being, but in my opinion it’s not a matter that Rev. Dobson should be addressing.
