No, alienating Christians, or even the sizable subset of Christians who seem to think the name applies only to a species of protestants with a literalist Scriptural hermeneutic, is not a way to win elections or advance conservatism.

That's one reason Guiliani can't win, hopefully not the nomination, and certainly not the presidency (though I'd hold my nose and vote for him over Hillary, enough Christian voters would stay home or go for a third party candidate that he wouldn't win).

Sure the MSM is trying to split the GOP, we know their motives. The question is why is Dobson acting as an accomplice?
