Egyptian antiquities supremo Zahi Hawass insisted Tuesday that Tutankhamun was not black despite calls by US black activists to recognise the boy king's dark skin colour.
"Tutankhamun was not black, and the portrayal of ancient Egyptian civilisation as black has no element of truth to it," Hawass told reporters.
"Egyptians are not Arabs and are not Africans despite the fact that Egypt is in Africa," he said, quoted by the official MENA news agency.
Hawass said he was responding to several demonstrations in Philadelphia after a lecture he gave there on September 6 where he defended his theory.
Protestors also claimed images of King Tut were altered to show him with lighter skin at the "Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs" exhibit which leaves Philadelphia for London on September 30.
The exhibition sparked an uproar when it kicked off in Los Angeles in June 2005 when black activists demanded that a bust of the boy king be removed because the statue portrays him as white.
The face of the legendary pharaoh, who died around 3,300 years ago at the age of just 19, was reconstructed in 2005 through images collected through CAT scans of his mummy.
The boy king's intact tomb caused an international sensation when it was discovered by Briton Howard Carter in 1922 near Luxor in southern Egypt.
Polish mill owners at that.

From Sudan, conquered Egypt for a brief period, took pyramid building back home.
What I love about all this is that Afrocentric only focus and point to statues created by the Late Nubian Dynasty. They totally disregard all other Dynasties who came before and after the Nubians and who’s statues are clearly not ‘black’ African. Afrocentric only focus on the 25th Nubian Dynasty because that’s the only Dynasty that supports their views while all other hard evidence they dismiss that the ‘evil white men’ blew off the faces or altered the faces of statues and mummies to look “white”. LoL!! The funniest part is they don’t realize how ridiculous they sound making such wild accusations.
I must admit, I do like the Baird tartan. Even if it was made up by some edwardian marketer. It’s a nice blue and green with a purple accent.
I have his picture on the wall that I bought at the New Orleans exibition.
King Tut is not black, he is gold.
At least it hasn't spread to astronomy yet ("European-American dwarfs" and "African American holes").
ROTFLMAO!!! That's too funny!! LoL!! :D:D:D
You must have missed that Time or Newsweek article years ago about towns in China that claim heritage back to Alexander the Great.
It is also a sure bet that the Egyptian ruling class was lighter skinned than the subject population. That is a universal trait found in all societies. The rulers select lighter skinned mates for their offspring. When a darker usurper takes power, he marries his children off to lighter mates. He takes wives who are lighter. That is true in Mali and Tanzania as much as it is true in France or Alabama.
The "frontier" or hillbilly speech depends on whar (or where) you are. The origin of that is not so much Lallans as the Scots Borders by way of Northern Ireland, but there are also quite a number of Elizabethan English links. The western settlements were about 50/50 Scotch-Irish and English, with some Germans and 'true' Scots thrown in.
You’re lucky! Imagine being forced to wear something like the Buchanan or Clan Chattan!
Well, being Baird, that goes without saying...

LOL. Tut. The original wild crazy guy!
“Who else could have built the pyramids?”
The Pyramids predate Noah’s Flood - predate Egyptians. Your quip about space aliens May be close to the truth.
I heard about them, a non-Muslim minority the Kalash, the Nuristan and the Chitral people being among those who claim to be descendants, don't know how much truth there is to that but their local folklore says they are descendants of Greek generals who set up colonies in Central Asia and married local women. There is only about 4000 of them left in the region. They have traditionally been called "the infidel wearers of black robes" by their muslim neighbors and they have over the centuries attracted the curiosity of the Muslim people in the region because their women not being Muslims do no wear traditional Muslim wear and are allowed to mix with the male populations. Recent DNA research shows that, even though they lack a high Greek haplogroups (e.g. haplogroup 21), analysis of the Y-chromosome indicates that there is a Greek admixture that could be as high as 20% to 40%.(source: Raheel Qamar, Qasim Ayub, Aisha Mohyuddin, Agnar Helgason, Kehkashan Mazhar, Atika Mansoor, Tatiana Zerja, Chris Tyler-Smith, and S. Qasim Mehdi, "Y-Chromosomal DNA Variation in Pakistan," American Journal of Human Genetics 70(5):11071124, 2002 May.) Surprisingly mtDNA research has shown that there is no South or East Asian genetic mtDNA influence within these groups of people. A stark contrast to some of their closest Indo-European neighbors, this strongly indicates a Western Eurasian mtDNA origin for these tribes. An interesting fact is based upon their isolation they did not convert to Islam like most in the region but rather kept their pagan religion through out the centuries that has similarities with the twelve Olympian gods of Ancient Greece. Most of these tribes do not reveal much about their religion and some pretend to believe in one god because they are surrounded by Muslims who believe in one God, but their religion is that of multi gods and goddesses. Another interesting little fact, in parts of Central Asia where these people live they wear similar traditional black dresses with picturesque colorful vests and headgear made of woolen materials with shells, buttons, feathers and pom-poms that are similar in the ones worn in Northern Greece as part of their traditional Greek folk costumes: top picture is of Greek women in traditional folk costumes from Greece and bottom is of Kalash women & girl in Central Asia:
Nuristan traditional dress design in a mix of traditional Hellenic & Asian fashion. For 2000 years these people have kept the Hellenic Selucid artistic style following Alexander the Greats conquest. Always referred to by their Islamic neighbours as "Kafirs" which translates to the Unbelievers. Many still worship a sort gods similar to the twelve Olympians of Ancient Greece.
Who knows how much of this is actually true and how much is folklore or maybe its a little bit of both a mix of fact and folklore, after all ancient sources such as Arrian and Plutarch do state that the army of Alexander reached "Nisa"(Nuristan) which is thought to be modern Kafiristan and where the leader of Nisa proclaimed that they were the descendants of the God Dionysus(Bacchus) that came from Greece long ago. Local legends told of followers of the God Dionysus from Greece led an expedition into Central Asia several thousand years earlier. There they established a settlement "Nyssa"(Jalalabad) where he found Mediterranean plants growing such as ivy and grapes, possibly the only place in Asia where these plants grow. According to legends other followers from this group continued the journey eastwards and it is possible they reached the Yunan province in China. In Yunan today there are numerous minorities who are unlike the Chinese in appearance have preserved religion and customs, including wine-making, similar to the customs of the ancient Greeks. Another interesting fact: the name Yunan simply means Greek or Ionians, the ancient Hellenic tribe that migrated eastwards for reasons of trade and set up colonies. The inhabitants of countries east of Greece always refer to the country and Greeks as Yunan or Yunnan or Yavana. On the other hand, to the west of Greece all countries refer to the country as Greece, the ancient Romans introduced this name when they came into contact with Hellenic colonists from a place called Graeci. Either way, folklore or true or a mixture of both they make for interesting stories. LoL!

Perhaps these people are related to the Tarim Basin European like mummies or the so-called White Huns. They certainly look more like Lithuanians than Asians.
Although there was a Kushite Dynasty in Ancient Egypt and there was a large black presence there, chiefly in the form of slaves, military personnel and government officials, most Ancient Egyptians were not “black” in the sense that term is understood today. Tutankhanmen and his dynasty were most certainly not black. Ancient Egyptians were most closely related to Caucasoid Berbers. Nor are Arabs truly black in an original sense, although there is a large black admixture today in northern Africa and adjacent Asia, as the Muslims, the biggest slave traders in history, took large numbers of enslaved blacks into their territories and intermarried or mixed with them.
The Taureg are a good example. Before they were they Islamicized (and their Islamcization is very superficial - which results in persecution of them by the surrounding Muslim population) they were predominantly a Caucasoid Berber people. Although their language is still a Berber language, their slave trading practises have turned them almost all black.
