The leader of a Syrian Islamist group claimed in an audio tape aired on Sunday that a group of Fatah al-Islam militants had escaped from the Nahr al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp in North Lebanon, and he hinted they would be launching attacks inside Lebanon soon.
Abu Jandal al-Dimashqi, the self-declared leader of Tawhid and Jihad in Syria, also mourned the death of Abu Hureira, the deputy leader of Fatah al-Islam, which has been battling the Lebanese Army in the camp and in Tripoli since May 20. The government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora announced last week that police in Tripoli, about 12 kilometers from the Nahr al-Bared camp, had killed Abu Hureira, a Lebanese whose real name was Shehab al-Qaddour.
"The martyrdom of our brother Abu Hureira has fanned the flames," said Dimashqi in an audio tape posted on an Islamic Web site. "Let the government of traitor Siniora know some of Fatah al-Islam's heroes have left the camp and are now among you. Wait for a black day." The authenticity of the audio tape could not be verified, but it was posted on a Web site commonly used by Islamic militants.

Suspected militants decapitate, shoot dead 2 alleged US spies in Pakistani tribal region

MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan: Suspected Islamic militants decapitated one Afghan man and shot dead another after accusing them of spying for the United States in a tribal region in northwestern Pakistan, an intelligence official said Sunday.
The body of one slain man, which villagers spotted early Sunday, was dumped by the side of a road on the outskirts of Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan tribal region, where helicopters also army raided a suspected militant facility, the official said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to make media comments.
A note written in the locally spoken Pashto language that was found with the body identified the man as Habibur Rehman of Zurmat tribe from Afghanistan's Ghazni province, the official said. The note said that Rehman was spying for the United States in Miran Shah and Mir Ali, another North Waziristan town, and received US$200 a month from the U.S. for the job, he said.

I agree. What disturbs me is are they empty out of fear of a PREEMPTIVE strike or a REACTIVE strike.
KABUL: General Pervez Musharraf, the president of Pakistan, made a rare admission on Sunday before hundreds of Pakistani and Afghan delegates at a grand tribal assembly here, saying that support for militants emanating from Pakistan had caused problems for Afghanistan, and that his country should work to secure peace on its side of their mutual border.
"I realize this problem goes deeper, there is support from these areas," Musharraf told delegates on Sunday. "There is no doubt Afghan militants are supported from Pakistan soil. The problem that you have in your region is because support is provided from our side." President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan nodded in agreement. p>Musharraf's words, and his appearance at the final ceremony of the four-day meeting in Kabul, were a sharp turnaround for him. In the past he has maintained that the insurgency in Afghanistan is a homegrown problem and stems from dissatisfaction with the Afghan government. Karzai has often asserted that the source of the Taliban insurgency lies in training camps and madrasas in Pakistan and that the insurgents take sanctuary there. Relations between the countries have deteriorated over the past two years as their presidents have repeated the same accusations over and over.

Egyptian Muslim who converted to Christianity goes into hiding

CAIRO: An Egyptian Muslim who converted to Christianity and then took the unprecedented step of seeking official recognition for the change said he has gone into hiding following death threats.
The man, Mohammed Hegazy, who sparked controversy when pictures of him posing with a poster of the Virgin Mary were published in newspapers, was shunned by his family and threatened by an Islamist cleric vowing to seek his execution as an apostate.

Agree, MSM is doing a disservice in their hype. Also to consider is an adequate quantity of the radioactive material. The radio active source from a smoke detector is too small to do much of anything when spread far and wide in the aftermath of an explosion. A substantial quantity of used uranium rods OTOH would be something different.

TEMPLE TERRACE – One of the USF students jailed in South Carolina on charges of possessing a pipe bomb hadn't even moved into Noor Salhab's rental property at 12402 Pampas Place.
But that connection is likely why FBI agents spent hours searching the home Saturday, Salhab said at a press conference this afternoon.
South Carolina authorities say the two University of South Florida students, Ahmed Mohamed and Youssef Megahed, had a pipe bomb and related paraphernalia in their car when they were stopped for speeding Aug. 4.
Salhab, a Realtor, has been renting the Pampas Place house to college students while trying to sell it. The place has been for sale for about a year.
Mohamed was still being vetted as a potential roommate for the house, where one of Salhab's sons also lives, but already had moved in some of his belongings.
Salhab said the FBI had given him a list of items they seized Saturday. Most of the items belong to him.
The seized items included his son's computer and telephone, the gas tank he uses for his lawnmower and a PVC pipe he brought over while making repairs to the house, Salhab said.
Megahed and Mohamed, 24, were charged Monday with possession of an incendiary or explosive device. Mohamed said in court they were carrying fireworks.

Records show the owner of that house is Sameeh Hammoudeh, a co-defendant in the trial of Sami Al-Arian. Al-Arian is the former USF professor who was acquitted on most charges of funding terror-related organizations. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to provide services to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Investigators also searched a car Saturday that records showed is registered to Noor Salhab’s son, Ghassan Salhab. Neighbors say he and two other men are the current residents of the house that was raided. FOX 13 did find a connection between the men arrested in South Carolina, and the men who live in raided house. Back in July, Tampa police cited Mohamed and another man named Ahmad Ishtay for shooting squirrels in a park. Ishtay confirmed to a FOX 13 reporter that he is one of Ghassan Salhab’s roommates. He said in published reports that Mohamed and Megahed, the arrested USF students, sometimes came over.

Early on, you’ll remember lots of downplaying of the contents of Megahed and Mohamed’s car trunk as “fireworks.” But note what Megahed’s family members themselves say about that:
Initial news reports said the men told deputies they had fireworks in the trunk. The Megahed family said they weren’t aware of that, and that the family did not have fireworks because of subdivision rules.
