Tonight I Cried
Debbie Argel Bastian

Posted on 05/08/2007 11:18:33 PM PDT by debbieargel

Tonight I cried. I really cried. I miss my son Derek, each and every waking minute. He was,is, and always will be my hero. He did not question his mission, as I'm sure he knew what the majority of Americans do not realize, and that is the real threat we face. He fought for democracy in Iraq, knowing that we face global terror if that is not obtained. He fought for the United States, his family, his son's future, and the continued freedom for the citizens of his country. He loved this President and admired the faith and courage he had in knowing the outcome of failure. For my son, I will continue on this mission. I will continue to ask for Sandy Berger to become a man and take a lie detector test. I will ask the Clinton's to do the same. I will pray for those in Congress to have the strength to invoke the Logan Act on Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for their part in embolding the enemy. I will pray for the continued strength of the Patriot Guard and the VietNam Veterans who don't want to see this again. I will pray for the help I need to uncover the corruption in Congress, and dismiss those that are guilty. I will pray that our country once again demands that we are, "One Nation, Under God." I don't wipe away my tears anymore. As one wonderful soldier told me at Walter Reed, "It is part of my story." Tonight I cried. I don't want sympathy, nor would my son. He is, and always will be a patroit, a loyal American, and a warrior for the cause of freedom.

Debbie Proud mom of Capt. Derek Argel

May the peace and comfort that comes from God be with you. No doubt, Derek is with him at this hour. Prayers will be lifted up for you and his wife and young child, and the rest of your family.

I feel badly that people like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Dick Durbin can say things that may be hurtful to you. I can only promise that I will do my very best to get after these cowards.

Your son knew the right thing to do. He knew how difficult and dangerous it was and he did it anyway. Thank you for bringing such a child into the world and making him into such a man. God bles him for protecting our country and my family, including my beautiful children.

God bless you and God bless your beloved son.

May God ease your mind and heart Debby. We are all suffering from the sacrifices of those so dear to us.

I also love your son Derek , and I have never met him.

We are blessed by men like Derek who place themselves physically between us, and those who would harm us. It is man's highest calling, blessed by God.

I wish I could express my feelings to you better. We are more than grateful, we are spiritually honored by Derek.

Please take care Debbie, and know that our hearts are with you.

Your son deserved leadership that is willing to crush our enemies by whatever means is required.

Once my country was liberated by the same men like your son. So therefor I cried too. God bless you and Derek.

I always have to remember this text when I see such things:

Why Are You Marching, Son?

Why Are You Marching, Son? I’d really like to know!
Is it because of Valley Forge, or perhaps the Alamo?
Or, “One if by land—two if by sea,”
A trumpet’s call...the will to be free?
And what of a man who stood straight and tall,
Who wept silent tears when he saw brave men fall?
No matter—no difference—the blue or the gray,
All were his brothers...how often he’d pray.
And what of Antietam—that now peaceful stream
Where the water, blood-red, glittered and gleamed?
Appomattox...Chickamauga..Vicksburg...Bull Run...
Cumberland...Gettysburg...and then Washington.
Why Are You Marching, Son?

In Flanders Fields, how proud were they
Whose forms beneath the poppies lay.
Men who saw Verdun...
And died at the Marne...Soissons...
And those who tried the fearful foe at Chateau-Thierry,
Who fought and bled...whose hearts grew weary,
But in whose minds one thought kept churning—
That the torch of liberty keep burning.
Why Are You Marching, Son?

The planes swarmed in, and the rising sun
Glowed fiercely on the evil done
To men whose blood runs through our veins,
Men who died, and whose remains
Life forever locked in waters deep.
Now, is it right that they should sleep
While the warm sea laps at a twisted hull
And see the torch of liberty grow dull?
Anzio...Cassino...and the Po!
St. Mere Eglise...Le Mans...St. Lo!
Gardelegen...Buchenwald...
On and on the roll is called!
And why?...Why Are You Marching, Son?

Bugles shrilled in the frozen night,
And at first dawn, the awful sight
Of seas of men...row after row,
Left to die on blood-stained snow!
Pusan...Pyongyang...Suwan...Kyongju!
And blood-red ran the swift Yalu!

In South Vietnam the big guns roared,
And once again we fought a war
To honor a pledge our nation gave
To help that little country save
Her people from the certainty
That she’d be ruled by tyranny.

No matter where the big guns roar,
Our fighting men, like those before,
Take the torch we all hold dear
And face freedom’s enemies without fear.
Our fathers died from sea to sea,
And blessed the torch of liberty.
Why?...Why Are You Marching, Son?

God bless you and your son, ma’am, from an old USAF veteran. Every time I hear of the loss of our young warriors, it causes my throat to constrict with emotion. May God welcome them into His arms.
