NAPA, Calif. — State health officials announced a recall in five states of frozen ground beef patties after at least three Napa County children who ate at Little League baseball snack shacks were sickened by E. coli.
The recall was issued Friday for about 100,000 pounds of frozen patties produced by Merced-based Richwood Meat Co. Inc. from April to May 2006 and distributed in California, Arizona, Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
The children all fell ill after eating hamburgers at the St. Helena and Calistoga Little League fields, and have since recovered, said Karen Smith, Napa County's public health officer. Those cases were reported on April 3-4, she said.

If this meat was produced in 2006, why did it take this long for something to happen or to know this was tainted? It would help to know which stores sell these items which would make it a lot easier. The health dept. issuing the warning should list the store names in my opinion.
Doesn’t well-cooking the meat kill off the ecoli? I remember reading somewhere once that only in cases where the tainted meat was cooked rare was it dangerous.
Step one: rule out food prep issues. Really.
Indeed it does. It’s ground beef that needs to be cooked throughout. If any bacteria is on the outside surface of a steak or roast cooking it to any basic level of done-ness will kill that bacteria, such as searing to medium rare on a steak or roasting a roast to medium done-ness.
It’s the grinding process that incorporates bacteria throughout the meat and makes the burgers need to be free of pinkness to prevent illness.
These burgers were not cooked through.
Time for a Double Double!
These pre-prepared frozen paties are the worst of the worst, including their ingredients.
Supermarket hamburger is far safer, and selecting a chuck roast and having it ground is safer still (and far tastier).
NAFTA, CAFTA and its offspring are looking pretty bad right about now.
Looks like an IN N OUT burger. We love their burgers but not too crazy about their fries. Great shakes, though.

Yikes.... these burgers are over a year old. If they were bad, don’t we think it would have showed up before these? How do we know it’s not just food poisoning from bad prep or old meat?
There seems to be a lot of food contamination originating from California lately. Arnold needs to stop funding stem cells and start funding food safety.
When the spinach recall was going on they kept showing fields and fields of spinach and I kept thinking where are the portable out houses? Never saw a one. When you gotta go, you gotta go and then it gets in the food.
I happened across a local TV website and saw an article that didn’t make national headlines while the spinach thing was going on. It was a daycare that was closed after bacterial contamination sickened several children. Around the same time period, I ran across another article in a state 1000 miles away where another daycare was closed after similar bacterial contamination.
Someone posted to me around that time that there were many more ‘situations’ that got reported to CDC and state/county health departments than ever made news.
So, is the food supply really safe or are the bureaucrats just wanting to keep the sheeple in the dark and hope that various situations can be contained?

Sounds like somebody needs to check out the snack shack.
For how long can frozen ground beef stay good? Doesn't meat still spoil, albeit slowly, when frozen?
