If this meat was produced in 2006, why did it take this long for something to happen or to know this was tainted? It would help to know which stores sell these items which would make it a lot easier. The health dept. issuing the warning should list the store names in my opinion.

Doesn’t well-cooking the meat kill off the ecoli? I remember reading somewhere once that only in cases where the tainted meat was cooked rare was it dangerous.

... who ate at Little League baseball snack shacks were sickened by E. coli.

Step one: rule out food prep issues. Really.

These pre-prepared frozen paties are the worst of the worst, including their ingredients.

Supermarket hamburger is far safer, and selecting a chuck roast and having it ground is safer still (and far tastier).

There seems to be a lot of food contamination originating from California lately. Arnold needs to stop funding stem cells and start funding food safety.

“The children all fell ill after eating hamburgers at the St. Helena and Calistoga Little League fields...”

Sounds like somebody needs to check out the snack shack.

... frozen patties produced by Merced-based Richwood Meat Co. Inc. from April to May 2006...

For how long can frozen ground beef stay good? Doesn't meat still spoil, albeit slowly, when frozen?

Scary stuff. What has been going on with all of these food scares lately. I remember when hearing about this stuff was somewhat more rare (no pun) 5 or 10 years ago.

The cook should be recalled, not the hamburger.
