RESOURCE LINK for March 17th: Counter ANSWER's march from the Wall to the Pentagon
Me | January 31, 2007 | Just A Nobody

Posted on 01/31/2007 2:42:16 PM PST by Just A Nobody

The purpose of this thread will be to pool our resources and ideas to counter the attempted take-over of our nation’s capital and foreign policy.

It is not the place to voice your disgust with those that feel it is necessary to present a street presence to counter the dregs of society seeking to undermine and destroy our country and our leadership. If that is your purpose, please move along.

On January 27, 2007, Thunder90 posted a thread to advise us of the next convergence on our nations capital by the anti-American hate-mongers. This gives us SEVEN WEEKS to organize and strategerize.

While reading Thuder90’s thread and the AAR from the DC Chapter’s counter demonstration last Saturday, January 27th, you will find inquiries in regard to transportation, hotels, metro lines and the like. There were also a number of Freepmails discussing these issues.

For those interested in making our presence known in Washington, DC on March 17, 2007 please feel free to offer what you can.

· If you are driving and have room for others, let us know the general vicinity you will begin the trip. I have an offer now of someone willing to pay for half the gas to share a ride.

· We already have offers of rooms/beds for those that need a place to stay. We can always use more!

· Perhaps you can rally enough interest in your area that renting a van or chartering a bus would be worthwhile. Let us know and we will see if that can be arranged.

· Those that live in the greater DC area or will have a vehicle at your disposal may be able to help shuttle folks from hotels or metro stations.

· We may need wheel chairs and those to push them.

· Those that have blogs, talk shows, columns or access to others that do – please share!

Any specifics should be discussed via FReepmail!

There are no formal plans at this time. Why plan a big rally/counterdemonstration if no one plans to attend?

Rest assured the DC Chapter faithful, with assistance from local citizens and troops, will be in DC on March 17th between 11:00 AM and however long it takes to ensure our presence is known.

The question is – WILL YOU BE THERE?

Great post, Cobra. If I recall correctly from "Stolen Valor", one of the lesser known facts of the Vietnam War is that approximately three times as many Canadians came down here to fight as those Americans who went up to Canada to evade the draft. Gallant men.

Rocky, I appreciate your coming to D.C.

As for the sign idea, it paints too broad a brush. We have friends and allies in the muslim community, just as we have enemies among muslims. No sense in alienating our friends. For those reasons I don't like that sign idea.

I misfired on my first sign idea for a freep in 1998. Other Freepers told me my idea was not good. I changed the sign and carried it for a long time. The new sign was seen on TV and in newspapers.

The messages we use that day have to be accurate. Slamming radical Islamists who want to kill us is fine. Slamming all muslims is counter-productive.

It was definitly the college kids! It was HOT HOT HOT that otherwise beautiful September day.

Of course we were moved from the gorgeous shady spot that we had been assigned, to the other end of the area with no shade. ;*(

Don't know if anyone is working on T-shirts but a posting on one of the other sites mentioned cafepress as well as giving two beautiful images to use. (Note that the second one is for a gathering of eagles at the Korean War Memorial.) I BELIEVE the images are free to use. (Shoulda confirmed that. . . .)

In light of the current vote in congress for withholding reinforcements to our fighting men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the upcoming antiwar rally to be held at the Vietnam Veterans memorial Grounds, I sent this letter to the editor today.

Letter To The Editor:

Morale and perception of strength are as much weapons of war as are troops and military. Armaments, which some Democrats and their allied antiwar groups are attempting to remove from our arsenal.

The potential for recent 'immediate withdrawal' statements to create doubt in the minds of our military of the public's support and is very dangerous. Should that doubt take root it would be disastrous to them and the nation.

We ask our men and women in wartime to kill on our behalf.

We give them legitimacy, justification, and, most importantly, absolution to do so.

When we give them reason to doubt this justification and absolution, we destroy their morale. When we remove them, we replace them with blame. Blame is quickly replaced by shame, ultimately that shame metastasizes into guilt.

And, GUILT is the one thing that America should never again be allowed to inflict upon another generation of her veterans.

When we destroy the troops morale we dishonor their service and we destroy their honor.

And, we dishonor it, when honor [and personal faith] is, at times, all they have to sustain them through the horrors they must endure and inflict on our behalf.

Honor is essential to character. When you destroy honor, you destroy character.

Destroy that, and you destroy the individual.

Destroy the individual, and you destroy the nation.

Democrats and antiwar activists should think about that before using the mass media again in their attempt to score political points at the expense of the troops. The consequences of their actions are emboldening our adversaries, and in the process they are shooting the nation and themselves in the foot.

More importantly ... they are shooting the troops through the heart.
