New York police reported a major outage of cellular phone service in the borough of Queens on Thursday.
"It's just an FYI. It has nothing to do with anything else. It's not criminal," a police spokesman said.
Two of New York's major airports -- JFK and LaGuardia -- are in the borough of Queens. Airport security was intensified after British police said they had foiled a plot to blow up several aircraft flying between Britain and the United States.
Cell service down as part of homeland security measures, is my guess.

It seems to me that the cell companies could with the US government's urging occaisionally "test" ring all cell phones at once.....the IED's that go boom...well that's where the terrorists WERE( personally snickering)! You catch many terrorist cells with their pants down with that strategy!

I guess someone decided to stop cellphone detonators from going off in New York today.
I did a Google-Search of the keywords 'Queens' and 'Muslims' in IMAGE mode and copied the descriptions of the pictures along with the image-locations. I found the 'celebration' notice on a website listing community announcements; there were a lot more there.

It's obvious that certain high-powered LEO's shut down the cell towers until the security situation sorts itself out.

Not sure about the terrorist's perspective, but if you're a Philly or Atlanta fan, you may want to knock off the Mets, who play at Shea Statium, which is located at the end of the LGA's runway.

And, as I posted earlier, I've had no problems making or receiving cell calls to or from folks there at all.
The Guardian Angels are Cutis Sliva's guys, and supposedly the DO patrol the subways, but I think I've seen two in 20+ years of riding the trains. The police presence has been periodically pretty heavy this summer. There was a terrorist threat back in August after India got bombed, and I had my back checked once or twice. The sad truth is that the terrorists can hit us there whenever they want, and eventually they will. If there is an attack on the subways and I am not right back up on FR within a few days, you'll know they got me.
I used to work in the WTC. I was away on business on September 11.
