New York police reported a major outage of cellular phone service in the borough of Queens on Thursday.
"It's just an FYI. It has nothing to do with anything else. It's not criminal," a police spokesman said.
Two of New York's major airports -- JFK and LaGuardia -- are in the borough of Queens. Airport security was intensified after British police said they had foiled a plot to blow up several aircraft flying between Britain and the United States.

Since cellphones are triggering devices for bombs it would make sense to shut down service in the vicinity of an airport if there was a suspected threat.

I dunno. Maybe he call the cell phone company and they told him that there was an outage and that they knew the reason for it. Ya think?

So do I. Keep a sharp watch up there. I don't recall that I've ever seen a news story about a major cell phone outage. The enemy use them to detonate bombs.

To: Sleeping Freeper
a major outage of cellular phone service in the borough of Queens maybe done intenionally to stop the bad guys from using cell phones to detonate something?

Maybe this was done to prevent terrorists from setting off IEDs using cell phones. Just a thought.

Having read of the potential, alternate uses of cell phones, I'd think if there is anything to this other than equipment failure, it's our guys that shut it down. What makes me think this is the reported cell phone outage that occurred during the football game at OU, when the guy blew himself up outside the stadium.

Since cellphones are triggering devices for bombs it would make sense to shut down service in the vicinity of an airport if there was a suspected threat. Exactly my thought. I'm wondering if this was done by the authorities on purpose at this point in time either because of a tip or as a 'test' (in case they got a tip).
