DEARBORN, Mich., July 27 (UPI) -- With a population of nearly 30,000 Lebanese-Americans, the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, Mich., is coming under intense scrutiny from federal investigators.
The reason is that in Dearborn many residents see no contradiction between being a loyal American and backing Hezbollah in its war with Israel, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Watching the fighting going on in the Middle East, the Tribune says many in Dearborn feel betrayed and unfairly targeted by the U.S. government.
Last May the owner of a chain of 15 restaurants called La Shish was indicted for tax evasion, accused of using a double set of books so he could funnel some $20 million to Hezbollah.
Talal Chahine fled to Lebanon to avoid prosecution but reportedly has denied any wrongdoing.
His case of one of several that link Americans with smuggling operations of illicit drugs, cigarettes and baby formula to profit Hezbollah, designated a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department.

And this is exactly why the Congress should have declared war against the State Dept.'s list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations and not simply against "terrorism" in 2001.
Then we would be quite clear about who is supporting America's enemies, and how to deal with them, whether foreign or domestic.

I never had a poor meal at any of the Lebanese restaurants on Warren in the early 90's. A little pricey for someone of my salary at the time, though.
How many of these ungrateful Lebanese were recently evacuated from Lebanon?
