May 1 closures: who to boycott? Rallies (Live thread)
05/01/06

Posted on 04/30/2006 9:38:02 PM PDT by Heartofsong83

This should be a list of who is planning to close their business on Monday, May 1 in response of the Great American Boycott. We should compile it and boycott them ourselves if possible!

Remember to go shopping or work overtime on May 1!

For the past week to ten days the downtown area of Homestead Florida, just south of me, has been a ghost town. Rumors of INS sweeps have caused panicked Mexicans to flood the phone lines of all the latin American consuls here in Miami.

Now, suddenly, Homestead seems to have the biggest of the Boycott rallies! My classes have been largely empty. I'm running about 60% absentees today and that's 30% higher than normal.

Funny thing is, here in the inner city, we don't have large numbers of Mexicans. Large numbers of Haitians (MANY of those illegals) yes, but very few Mexicans.

Most of my folks are good old native born black folks. They're staying out to support their minority brothers in their struggle for equality. The reality is (for the high school senior) any excuse to skip school and PARTY!

Another good one SA!

CBS radio here is foaming at the mouth about the 'sea' of red-white-blue how naive

Then he reports there are 'some' other flags' well actually, many BUT it seems every other person has an American flag, one guy has a tie and wrapped in a flag, skewed Chicago

Be alarmed!!!

Be ARMED you mean. If they start trouble, things will go from bad to worse real quick... Don't get caught out with nothing but harsh language to back you up.

I know, absurd question. Of course we have the right to mind our borders. I saw the headlines but am surprised at Fox.

I wonder if Social Services is catering to illegals today. Bet they are not boycotting there!

Not exactly a way to win people over.

I look at it that American's are fed up with being bombarded with these images. I pray there is no violence but I do see this is what it takes to get them off their duff's because we are in Crisis. It must begin grassroot to take our country back

And how do you 'reenact the Middle Ages?

True story - my freshman year in college, I was heading to the dorm one day and walked by the basketball court. There I saw two people, wearing homemade armor, beating the heck out of each other with broomsticks. I knew I wasn't in Kansas anymore.

Later, I found out it was just some "SCA" thing. As I recall, it stands for "Society for Creative Anachronism". Those people were strange, but they're probably running the country now.

Bush's position on border security is strong and undeniable.

Uh huh.

So go to Taco bell. It is American owned and operated.

It's also owned by Pepsico. Look further up the thread.

When I was growing up, (in the upper Midwest), May day was a huge holiday, where retail stores all had sidewalk sales, and parades were back to back all day long. It was also a factory holiday.

As I recall it was about flowers.

To: Names Ash Housewares

My husband and I eat often at a favorite diner (Greek owned) across the street from a Naval Air Base. The Hispanics who work there clean off the tables (I'm sure it's a language thing--they don't need to speak English to do that). I always go out of my way to smile and speak to the lady who is almost always there working (it's very hard work). She never responds--I think she's just very shy. Today, she went out of her way to give me a big smile and greeting. I think it was her way of showing she is NOT a part of the boycott crowd. Good for her.
