They are caught between funding from their Moonbat base and the reality of what happens if they fillibuster (ie. Bush will push thru an even more conservative nominee, maybe two).

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton wants Wal-Mart to contribute to health insurance for its employees - but can't recall if she pushed for worker benefits during six years as a paid board member for the nation's largest retailer.

Asked if she had advocated better benefits while serving as a board member with Arkansas-based Wal-Mart from 1986 to 1991, Clinton replied, "Well, you know, I, that was a long time ago ... have to remember," adding that "obviously I believe every company should" contribute to benefit plans.

Very Sad but very telling how the democrats believe that the courts should be the creators of law. It is blindly clear that they think if they can control the courts then they still have a chance at controlling the country.

The fact that the Democrats are willing to declare against an extremely well qualified nominee on almost a party line vote convinces me that their primary objective is not the good of the nation, but the good of their party.

On the other side of the world Americans are giving their young lives for the ideals of our country and here at home a "political club" is trying to abort those same ideals.

So far Nelson, Johnson, Landrieu, Salazar and Byrd have said they will not support a filibuster, so that puts the count right at 39 (i.e. 44 dems-5 no filibuster).
Time for Reid to cave and get on with the vote.

This was announced on Fox 55 Republicans and 2 Dems will be voting to confirm Alito.

Aw come on, we love Joe Lieberman on foreign policy and defense, but he's a loyal liberal domestically. He gets a pass because he is the best that we have to the loyal opposition.

Very interesting. My sister is an "anti-Wal-Mart" liberal who moved to Arkansas a few years back. I wonder if she knows Hillary was on the board.

Inouye, a democrat representing Hawaii, is speaking next. He is somewhat moderate, and a gang of 14 member. Will be interesting to see where he falls, though if he is being allowed by the democrats to speak first during their debate hour, I imagine he'll announce his opposition to Samuel Alito.

No 'listening tour' for a federal campaigner. Audiences would be forced to hear Hillary's stentorian voice. That alone would guarantee her opposition an avalanche of votes. HaHa
