I remember an avalanche of negative comments when Roberts was announced. Conservatives had already presented their list, and Roberts wasn't on it - shock and horror! And I tried to reassure as many people as I could that I had an inside line on Roberts from an uber-conservative who'd known him for years. I thought Miers was a disaster from the get-go (and I didn't need the media to tell me that) & I still have no idea why Bush picked her. A SCOTUS seat is way too much reward for loyalty. I was waiting for her to get out of committee, then write both my Republican Senators to oppose her. I'm not sure I'm happy about her withdrawing. I know I'm not happy about all the infighting there's been.
I gues what I'd really like is to win my ebay bid on the flux capacitor, put it in my DeLorean and have him not pick her to begin with.

I knew it was a game all along.

I don't think so. W had so many obviously superior choices.

I think Bush is loyal but he hasn't shown signs of being extremely vindictive. Oh yeah... just ask Saddam about that :)

The Conservative press has NO influence over mass public opinion. They have completely failed in that arena.
They are much to "sophisticated" to fight the MSM, the SP (who they have already endorsed), and the CIA.
The Conservative media have nothing on their MSM betters, who have run rings around them for decades.
THEY are the original "new tone", limp wristed, girly men.
And all the while they criticize the Pres for exactly that attitude.
Don't expect help from them to defeat the MSM, or help Rove and Libby, they don't want to get dirty, it could ruin their Manhattan reputations.

Even the leftists blogs are saying that even though they didn't care for Miers she did NOT DESERVE the Abuse and humilation that was wracked on her by conservatives before she even got her day in the Senate.yes. the lefty blogs are so often right -- we should believe everything they say. /sarcasm

Who needs a Constitution? And who needs a President? Any old plebiscite of chosen cognoscenti will do. Precisely. . .
. . .and not unlike the 'between-the-lines/rest-of-the-story' as per Mark Levin (post 548)

It was from folks that are too stupid to follow a philosophy and not an individual. Swearing unquestioned allegiance to any one man is wrong, and history makes this point over and over again. A sight for sore eyes..............you get it!!

cognoscenti Nice word!
Might as well brush up on my vocabulary while I'm here.

If the Dems want to battle and filibuster a nominee, make them fight in a battle they really want no part of. JRB is a nuk-u-lar weapon. Duck and cover won't save Schumer and Fat Teddy.

Be careful what you wish for. You might get all of that -- and a devastating loss in the Senate when the 'Rats and moderate Republicans prevent a vote. That's exactly what we need.
We need to know which "Republicans" are not really Republicans, when the rubber hits the road.
JRB is the right woman at the right time, and that time is NOW!

Ding-dong, the witch is dead
That sort of nonsense is unnecessary.

I repeat, I will never forget what was done to this woman by the conservative media who have lost my respect by their all out war against a nominee they did not want.Yep. The next time I get one of those tin-cup letters from National Review, wanting money, I'm going to tie their Business Reply envelope to a 20-lb. Haddite block smeared in cow manure, and send it, marked "personal and confidential", to David Frum, Esq.

(If you're not willing to give Harriett Miers a hearing, I don't give a damn what you think.)
To: COEXERJ145
That is just plain untrue.
Bush did this to himself. It was an incredibly dumb move.
Most of us were ready to go to war for a conservative nominee. We believe it to be a deadly serious issue. One can hardly go to war on a "trust me" nominee when so many of the "trust me" nominees in the past have gone so terribly wrong.
I donated to Bush and want to see him succeed, particularly in the war on terror. Many voted for Bush on this appointment issue alone.

The base weren't the ones complaining. They could have cared less. The base did not need to be "galvanized".
To: DoughtyOne
Please explain how the withdrawel of a woman with very little track record is a win for the democrats? Because just like everything else, the dems frame the issues. Compliments of the GOP.
To: Cuttnhorse
You are just full of cheap crappy shots this morning. Are you sure you are glad Miers withdrew her nomination?
