Evidently, to you, the Supreme Court issue is political. To me, it is a Spiritual issue. No, to me the Supreme Court is not political or spiritual - it's judicial. I don't want activist nor religious philosopher kings on the court.
I want members on the court that will do their appointed job and no more. They are the judicial branch, not the legislative nor the executive branch.
I want the court to follow the laws as written and within reason, the spirit of the origin. If we do this, if we don't like a ruling then we just change the law. If we have philosopher kings on the court, even changing the law might not be enough.
We are no better than the left if we look to the court to implement our agenda.

Could be - I just did a quick Google search - wasn't "Jr" on the Supreme Court?
To: caryatid
Olsen huh? Hmmmmm. He'd be good...except he was appointed Solicitor General in 2001, only four years ago. I have no idea if his opponents could make that into a valid sticking point.
I'm a woman too. And could care less whether he nominated a woman last time or ever again. It's the left that made gender into the "smoking gun" needed for this confirmation, not conservatives. It's the left that has made all SCOTUS nominations into a neverending abortion-affirmative action debate.

Gotta take care of the baby for a few hours. Loved it, mean it. Soon we'll all be back to slamming socialists together, the way God intended it (apologies to Nameless).

I was referring to how you posted to a fellow freeper, not your opinions on Meirs.

"I read a number of posts where she, herself, and her faith were made fun of."
Fair game, because the administration told us with Roberts that his religion didn't matter... and then tried to tell us that with Miers, it was everything.

I do think that there is a good chance that Gonzales will be selected in retribution by GWB. That destroys the "trust GWB" justification for supporting Miers.
To: Sloth
Right then the Dem Bush haters will attack-while the Rino's do do nothing.

I don't think that most people who opposed her were on the left, and I certainly didn't oppose Roberts. Miers was a mistake, and we shouldn't have to pretend that everything Bush does is perfect just because he's "Republican."

And, I am listening, STILL, to Laura Ingraham. And she is STILL trashing Miers. Ripping her speech. Laughing at her writing style. How in hell can any of you people listen to this wench? Well, you're still listening to her, LOL. She's not trying to appeal to liberals like you, Sinky. She's telling the truth, and the truth hurts sometimes, poor baby.

"I think you mean that Alberto Gonzales will be no more supported by conservatives than was Miss Miers. I do think that there is a good chance that Gonzales will be selected in retribution by GWB."
If he is nominated, then Bush proves himself to be a dishonorable, revenge-filled, spiteful man, who would rather "get back" at his base than move a Conservative agenda forward.

(Miers has withdrawn. You can stop spinning for her. It's ok to admit she was a bad pick.)

There are people on FR who, if a cackling GOP president slit a baby's throat on national television, would start posting stuff like "that baby probably needed killing" or "our President is playing badminton and the rest of you naysayers are playing mah-jong."I nominate this post "The Dumbest Post Of The Day - October 27, 2005"

This whole episode has really lowered my opinion of the First Lady. Drastically.

You are right...the Dems will hold out until 2006-elections-hoping for a shift in the Senate. Janice could not get confirmed...the first time. Do people really think she will sail through this time?

FYI, I don't have a "soul," however, I do have (a) sole(s)... when I wear shoes, anyway. (Which I do occasionally.) Could you possibly cite some evidence, preferably peer reviewed, of the existence of a soul? If "God" had our best interests in mind, wouldn't he want us to learn about the world he created? Why is he hiding evidence of our souls from observation? So what is going to happen to me?

She AND Bush knewHow could they? She has never been a judge so there is no way that either one of them had the foggiest idea what type of judge she would be or if she would even show any ability.
To: PhiKapMom
However, the MAJORITY of Meirs supporters just seem to ignore the speech!!!
