just breaking!!!!!!!!
Bears repeating BUMP
I would call getting a majority in the Senate, only to find out that your nominee must also please the minority, going nowhere fast.
There's a possibility he may even want to see it fail, an awful charge (and one I wouldn't make), if true.
But he is not going to use the Miers nomination or take direct action to actually help do it which was the original charge to which I responded.
She AND Bush knew - that was the big difference between her nomination and Souter, Kennedy, O'Connor. I can just see you people fighting for Sparta during the Trojan war: "People of Troy, don't be fooled - the horse is hollow!!!"
You have cited the father of Justice Holmes, who was a physician and professor of medicine at Harvard.
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. (1841-1935)
Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. would serve on the Supreme Court longer than any other person-thirty years. He was called "The Great Dissenter" because he was often at odds with his fellow justices and was capable of eloquently expressing his dissents. Louis Brandeis often joined him in dissents, and their views often became the majority opinion in a few years' time. Holmes resigned due to ill health in 1932, at age ninety. He died in 1935 [just months short of his 94th birthday] and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery next to his wife.
My son (4) is literally obsessed with Dora. He saw the new Dora Dollhouse on tv and the next morning was crying and whining wondering where his house went, as if he actually owned it already. Silly children. Thank God for programs though, like that, that teach our children some good. There aren't many left.
There are two Oliver Wendell Holmses. The one on the Supreme Court was still around after World War I. The poet-father-doctor must be the one who died in 1894.

Dr. Dobson Says Bush Made 'Wise Decision' on Miers Nomination
I think Bush should nominate Janice R. Brown. Most of the 7 RINOs are on record saying that they would not allow a filibuster on the three nominees that were part of the "compromise" (read sellout) deal.
Further, just as ACTS 2:38 said, Bush needs a unified party more than anything else right now. Bush needs to "dance with the person who brought him" and stick to his base.
Not only is it the right thing to do, but it is good political strategy. The conservative "base" is much larger than the liberal "base". Liberals have to hide from their liberal lable and PRETEND to pander to the middle. Conservatives dont have to pander to the middle, because their are enough of us to affect the outcome of elections as November 2004 proved.
Nothing would improve the President's fortunes better than overriding the liberals in Congress through a knock em down drag em out fight. If there is anything that can fight the "lame duck" lable the MSM has tagged on him, it is a victory that demonstates which party really does hold the reigns of power in Washington.
For the same reason(s) you post here. I've been here a long time. Since 1997. (In the early days, various software crashes caused those of us who registered before 1998 to have to reregister.) It used to be a place where mainstream conservative and Republican people were welcome.
Sure, we can so count on the Senate to use the nuke option in order to stop the filibuster right?
You speak of party. I belong to no party. However, I am a conservative. Currently, the Republicans are moving the agenda forward. Albeit, not as quickly as many immature people who do not have a deep knowledge of history would like. However, I actually am quite inspired by what progress has been made.
The immature and impatient ones will complain, of course. However the seasoned men and women will understand that this is a process...step by step by step.
Judge Brown has been my #1 choice from the start. Hopefully President Bush will nominate Judge Brown or another judicial conservative who is as qualified as she is.
No less ugly than the supporting camp, and it was all entirely unnecessary. For the conflict itself there is no one but the President to blame. A strategy of pre-emptive concessions to the Democrats is simply not acceptable.
