The next nominee will be another woman. The seat to be filled in place of the retiring O'Connor is a woman's seat.

I would rather not be a buchanan or rockefeller republican, both are proven losers.

You'd think after being wrong so much, you'd be a little scarce around here.

But no, you're as loud as ever. LOL

"We fear the chances are strong for Alberto. Sure it will further enrage the base. But no one, no matter how much they disagree with his positions on certain issues, or his past affiliations, will be able to question his credentials."

Yup - Gonzalez is pro-abortion, pro-gun control, and a member of the racist group La Raza. Hard to question those credentials...

But if Bush nominates him for USSCJ, it would certainly question Bush's judgement...

Gonzalez wasn't popular among the GOP for Atty General!

Is Puchannan even a Republican? He left the party to destroy Parot's party? The guy is anti-business and an isolationist. You fought for the dignity of this Lady and for that you should be proud.

Never seen anything from JRB that I've disagreed with. That being said, no political hack (Republican or Democrat) is going to nominate a SCOTUS Justice that could overturn their social programs or find the laws they advocated unconstitutional.

Libertarians as a party, may have a few out of mainstream views (i.e. drugs) but I'm about to the point I'd trust a Libertarian in office than I would a Republican

I am relieved Ms. Miers withdrew her name. Who is the next lamb for the slaughter?

I don't suppose it occurs to any of you folks that the exact same outcome could have been accomplished without the vitriol exhibited by so many pundits and people on this board. People could have worked behind the scenes and accomplished a dignified withdrawal, instead of airing dirty laundry for the public's edification.

You all have thro own your lot in with Kristol, Frum, and the rest of the weasel crew, who now apparently think they control the nomination process. Good luck to you.

IMHO we are now going to get someone we can all get behind because the President has seen the conservatives of the party are going to stick together when a conservative is nominated. IMHO any conservative that doesn't get behind a Luttig or JRBrown nomination or Owens are not conservatives on here but trying to disrupt. I have read a lot of threads and what I saw were Freepers I know who are conservative genuinely concerned about this nomination. Then when the reports of her interviews with Senators started to come out, I begin to wonder what was up with this nomination. Two and two did not add up.

I was supporting the nomination getting a hearing in the Senate Judiciary because I knew Dr. Tom Coburn would be asking questions. I have complete faith in my Senator to get to the bottom of everything including this nomination.

Like another Freeper said "bait and switch" comes to mind.

I think if Bush sends up Luttig, and then McConnell, and then Alito, and then Jones, and then Estrada, and then Brown, that at the end of the cavalcade of unreasonable rejections there will be 70 Republicans in the Senate and that Bush could get his dog confirmed.

THANK YOU! Roll Sean Connery voice: "If they stab one of yours, you shoot one of theirs...It's the Chicago way!" In light of the White Sox win, it seems appropriate.

They may fail time & time again, but they can use the "Clinton strategy". Delay until the American people tire of the fight. They will SEE the obstruction. All our side has to do is KEEP SAYING "The President gets to pick, not the Senate". Keep saying it so that everyday Joe knows who the wrong side is on the battle.

It has the potential to win us MANY seats in 2006 if they play this card right!

I have been led to pray even more for our President.

He's being tested and probably feels very much 'alone' lately on that hill.

But his faith will see him through, and he will stay the course!....

The only Republicans back in August 3, 1993 to vote NO on Ruth Bader Ginsburg, of New York, to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States were:

Helms (R-NC)
Nickles (R-OK)
Smith (R-NH)

Enjoy your brief moment of so-called glory. You are being shown for what you are.

We won.

You lost.

Sigh. One more time.

I AM NOT SAYING ideology isn't important...it is. I'm simply saying you won't hear it from the president. Does he consider it? Of course. Will he ask open questions about it to the nominee? No. Will you hear him talk about a nominees ideology? No. That doesn't mean the nominee isn't a conservative.

And I'm not writing this to support Miers. Her lack of written legal philosophy was a sinker from the beginning. I'm glad she's withdrawn...and I think it's time for the "Miers battle" to end.

I don't think Volokh has the resume Kozinski does, but I agree he'd be a good justice, too--someday. Probably not acceptable right now b/c of that short resume, however.

I think this withdrawal injures the president. He is obviously weakened.

It will affect whom he can nominate to SCOTUS. (See post #823)

I'm thinking there will be no Fitzpatrick indictments at all. That's my hope. However, if there are, then the President is even more injured.

This is really negative stuff to have happening when we should already be targeting democratic senate seats in the mid-term elections.

Mr. President, now is the time to appoint a Known Conservative. Step up and give us what we the people who voted for you and supported you want in a Supreme court Justice.

Anyone listening to that clap trap boxer on FOX. Man I despise her lying. She actually said no dems opposed Miers. What..... Give me a break...

Come On Bush, appoint a True Conservative who will overturn RvW.

Thanks,
Joe
