What is clear from Ms. Miers speeches and writings, however, is that she was a poor choice for the Supreme Court. We've suffered from justices' evolving standards for too long.

Those my friend, are feelings we can share.

And now all the Miers haters are gearing up to do the same to the next person the President nominates

You are delusional.

it will take a season of USSC session to decide

And that's fine, really. Let them go with eight justices for awhile. What matters is not how easily a nominee can be confirmed. What matters is getting the right person in the position. We'd do well to remind the crestfallen sycophants of that today, I believe.

How did Roberts get confirmed?

Roberts came off like a moderate and made the "agreed upon law" pledge.

"Forced out by hard-line conservatives", or

No...."Forced out by the RADICAL EVIL RIGHT-WING...FAR RIGHT ANTI-CHOICE CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVES.

But it must be said with your tongue flicking in an out...and your eyes glowing red.

Democrat Senators in "Red" states like Salazar and Ben Nelson need to have their arms twisted out of their sockets in voting for the next (hopefully suitable) candidate. Pressure on them should begin as soon as the nominee is announced.

Regards, Ivan

"Just remember most of the people who opposed Miers were the same who opposed Roberts and oppose everything the Preisdent does. They hate him just as much as the kook left does which is why they sound more and more like them every day."

That is true of some of the punditry - but given time with Roberts, they for the most part let up on their criticism. Also, one should keep in mind that the real criticism was with the stealth approach pursuant to which the outside world purposely doesn't know how the nominee feels about critical subjects. In that sense, opposition to both Roberts and Miers was consistent and rationale (whether one agrees or disagrees substantively) unless you just want to blindly follow.

I supported Roberts but was fairly cool on Miers (apparently a "big government" "get along" world view type). And, I've spent years and money supporting the President. You are wrong.

This was an ignorant, stupid, graceless, move by an embattled president listening to less than apt advisors. Now...let's see if he has the intestinal fortitude to 1) nominate a true conservative experienced judge and let the battle begin; and 2) since it appears that our military is not capable of "winning" the Iraq situation...bring them home...now!

Well well, it looks like another one has decided to join the enemy. Do you get your news from the NYT and watch the Today Show? I bet you love CNN and code pink's freedom fighters.

Where the hell in the Constitution does it say eight years anyway.

It's a GOP rule. And it has held since 1994.

So don't think Specter is going to be removed by Frist, or even Mitch McConnell, who will likely succeed Frist.

All of it hard earned. Go review my vanities... you'll see I defended her for some time, until I was overwhelmed by the stench.

Although I have been for weeks against the folks opposed to Miers, I think that you are wrong on this one. President Bush is not weakened by the Miers withdrawal but on the contrary he has healed the friction in the conservative base and this is very important.

I have never seen such a vicious attack on FR against anyone to the degree I've seen against this woman since Kerry (rightfully deserved) in 2004. Hell, sinkspur out and out accused her of being a closet lesbian because she isn't married. She deserved to be heard then voted up or down.

Great, so Miers is out. Can everyone please kiss and make up now?

And in the cloud of judicial nominees, indictments, amnesty programs, hurricanes, and government spending, please don't forget these guys and what they've accomplished:

Thanks. I can still see her head nodding as what's his name was asking the question about sexism. She was nodding before he got the whole question out! I was crushed!

I thought much better of her than that, and was proud of her, bringing class to the WH again.
