If Repubs win in 2006, Specter, your chairmanship is toast. He has the job for eight years. Get used to it.

You don't know what you're talking about. If Bush nominates a conservative everyone of us will be there with him. In fact, many of us will give him an extra benefit of the doubt because of the bitterness what just happened. Stop your liberal broad brushing.

This is the beginning of the bush/rove push-back
Wow. What were the odds of this happening? I guess when Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham both come out against the Pres on something, it counts.
The dems want indictments, we will give them indictments. In the court of public opinion. Put a real Pro-Lifer in their who answers questions and turns the hearings into a war between good(US) and evil(Dems).
Indict the democrats for killing 40 million babies. Indict them for using the courts to erase the will of the people. Indict dem.
And thank you Harriet. You showed real Christian Spirit by showing humility and letting someone better qualified step up. Amen to that.
Garza? You know how them dems hate us conservative Latinos. He is USMC too.
Alan Keyes? Ohhh yeah. I'd love to see that explosion.
I just want a Pro-Lifer, in their 40s if possible, a veteran if possible, a Pro-Lifer, oh I said that.

((((SIGH))) Well I can only hope that some good will come out of this distroying and humilating of a nominee. But I truly believe that the Republican Party is now officially split in two. I was seeing the small crack about a year ago but it has gotten bigger.

We have enough brilliant conservative candidates to nominate MORE than one if neccessary. Eventually the pressure will be on the dems and the stupid GO14 to vote the nominee in.
To: You Dirty Rats
I only wish she had enough support in the Senate. There are more than enough Bush state Dem senators who can be strong-armed if the folks back home are pro-JRB.

I'm about 95% sure this was the plan all along.
It has ROVE's fingerprints all over it.
The right got to show that they are not all in lockstep with Bush.

Michael Chertoff would have been the better pick.
And what major entertaining fireworks that would have been in confirmation, since the Rats despise him, but he knows where all the bodies are buried, and doesn't shirk at exposing them.

Something just occured to me. What if the plan was to put up a weak nominee in order to lower expectations. Roberts was a damn tough act to follow, but Miers is not.
To: pollywog
what a shame she didn't at least get a up/down vote. I thought that is what we were all about here. Being fair. This will backfire on the Republicans.Let's just hope that the President will stay the course and nominate a true blue conservative!! I personally had faith in Harriet Miers.I agree.

It won't be Gonzales... everyone can relax.
Now, let's put the Miers internal fight behind us, rally behind a conservative, and go to war. We can take and articulate a conservative judicial philosophy to the American people, and the moderates will come on board... politically, they'll be afraid not to be on board.
We can win this.

It would be nice if Laura and Andy Card would stay out of this nomination.
Yes. Agree.
I have a gut feeling the Miers nomination was Laura B's nomination/suggestion. [Those touting Laura B for public office should consider that.]

A fair question. You can do it through salesmanship. Pick a good product and sell it skillfully. If you can get American voters to love the product, the votes will be thereSounds good and fair. I look forward to a fair and balanced treatment from ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/MSNBC/NYTimes/Washington Post and all the rest. But seriously, let's roll. We were hypocrits about everyone deserving and up or down vote but perhaps no one will notice.

E.D. Hill just said that a list of people he was considering asked to be removed because they didn't want to go through the hearings process. Can you blame them?I'll go through the hearing. Nominate me!

I don't know how to post a link, but here is my post from 10/4 on a thread called Reading Bush's Brain
To: flixxx
ready to get flamed by this but here are some recent thoughts -
Bush knew the Dems would go after his next nominee because they "let" Roberts through, figuring he was replacing Rehnquist with Roberts so that was OK. Bush and Harriet are good friends and she knew the next nominee would take some heat, and she was willing to do that.
If the Dems go after her they will really make themselves look bad and she will be strong enough to still look good....but she will bow out so Bush can appoint his real choice Janice Brown. After the Dems made fools of themselves over going after Harriet, they can't badger a second woman, they will let Brown sail through and Harriet will have loyally "fallen on her sword" for George.
OK so it's some 6 hour road trip afterburn thinking but it IS possible and it would avoid Brown getting a hard scrutiny, plus she is a black woman, the Dems would look even more ridiculous going after her.

Since the hard right has chosen to undermine him in his first choice, the President is now free to pick whomever he wants. Can you say Justice Gonzales? Huh?
Are you seriously arguing that the Pres will pick someone to "spite" us? Does he want NO seats in Congress in 2006?

Who is the "they" that you are referencing? I have not heard any libs make a statement for or against her. They just let conservatives do a circular firing squad.
