"Those who "back" her actually back the President. We are standing against the Lynch Mob and asking for a fair hearing without the rumour, lies and innuendo. Leave those tactics to the RATS."
I back the President and oppose her. Is that impossible in your view?
I'm betting the DEMOCRATS in the senate will sit back and enjoy the FREE RIDE they were given by Mr Appeasement
GW BUSH.
Over 70% on the FR poll are already unsure about this nominee...
They're risking a lot more than they realize. They are rapidly losing the respect and confidence of the rank and file, unless they are attempting to switch to the democrat column. How can you trust the judgement of people who are so knee jerk? They have exposed their agenda. They are not the least interested in an originalist, they are interested in politicizing the bench.
But Miers' opponents seemed to think these comments were directed squarely at them. This applies to Captain's Quarters (I think that's the one) and Rush especially. They went off the deep end -- maybe looking for a reason to justify the fierceness of their anti-Miers rhetoric.
We all know Lauer has an agenda. He just got lucky and asked an open-ended question to make news, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then!
That's why we like her.
;0)
-good times, G.J.P. (Jr.)
If these staffers are saying Miers does not have a right to a hearing, then they are NOT the defenders of the constitution and founding fathers that they have been pretending to be all this time. If this is what they really are, then they can not be trusted as a source for republican presidents and should be passed over.
I went back to look at what cc said. It was all true.
Mr. Sessions (R)Mr. Sessions affirmative . My conversations with Harriet Miers indicate that she is a first-rate lawyer and a fine person. Her legal skills are proven and her reputation throughout the legal community is excellent. It is not necessary that she have previous experience as a judge in order to serve on the Supreme Court. Its perfectly acceptable to nominate outstanding lawyers to that position. I look forward to the confirmation process and to learning more about her judicial philosophy.
Mr. Cornyn (R) Mr Cornyn affirmative "The President has announced his nominee to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court of the United States: Harriet Miers, currently serving as White House Counsel. As he did with Judge John G. Roberts, Jr., the President has chosen an outstanding nominee for our nation's highest court. The Senate should consider this nomination in both a thorough and expedient manner.
"Harriet Miers is a brilliant legal mind. She is a woman of outstanding character who clearly understands what it means to follow the law. She is deeply committed to public service, and has a distinguished history of professional achievement. It is clear that her past experiences have well prepared her for the honor of serving our country as a Supreme Court Justice. I strongly support her nomination.
"It is important that we put aside partisanship, and that the Senate fulfill its constitutional responsibility of advice and consent. This fine nominee must be treated with civility and respect, not as a political pawn. I hope that we in the Senate can move forward in a manner worthy of the American people."
Mr. Coburn (R) Mr.Coburn..affirmative. Harriet Miers deserves a fair and thorough hearing and confirmation process. I look forward to learning more about her qualifications and judicial philosophy in the coming days, Dr. Coburn said, adding that he plans to meet with Miers this week.
.
PC talk sure doesn't do a lot for W or his wife.....impresses me about as much as this pick.
Those of us who have doubts are not members of a lynch mob ... or sexist, or elitist, or whatever. You insult your fellow conservatives when you call us names.
In Reagan's world, most Republicans were conservative.
In Bush's world, most Republicans (like Bush), are liberal.
Reagan's commandment does not work anymore, unless you substitute the word "conservative" for "Republican", and since Bush is not a conservative, the point is moot.
This makes me feel tons better. Thanks. END SARCASM!
