Now I want to also say that Laura shouldn't have agreed with the premise, but she's not a very fierce political animal and can be lulled into a false sense of security by a smiling Lauer. She's rumored to be pro-choice and is probably quite "squishy" on these kinds of things. It wasn't a particularly unfair question by Lauer, it's just that a politico would have had the presence to deflect it.

But Miers' opponents seemed to think these comments were directed squarely at them. This applies to Captain's Quarters (I think that's the one) and Rush especially. They went off the deep end -- maybe looking for a reason to justify the fierceness of their anti-Miers rhetoric.

We all know Lauer has an agenda. He just got lucky and asked an open-ended question to make news, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then!
