Hurricane Rita Live Thread, Part VII
NHC - NOAA ^ | 23 September 2005 | NHC - NOAA

Posted on 09/23/2005 8:01:35 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Rita landfall is anticipated within the next few hours. Strong winds and heavy rains are battering southern Louisiana and southeastern Texas.

MSM news crews are shouting over the howling winds as they foolishly describe blowing rain, swaying trees, and crashing waves through rain splattered camera lenses. It's a hurricane. We know these things already.

An 18 wheeler rig reportedly overturned on an I-10 bridge. The fate of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Reports of widespread power outages in Lake Charles. KPLC-TV Lake Charles local news has remarkably improvised their reporting from a remote location. They are taking calls from residents, NWS, and public utility representatives, and alerting residents to local conditions.

On the flip side, CNN announced to the world that law enforcement officers had evacuated from Port Arthur TX with the rest of the population. Engraved looter invitations would have been more elegant.

Godspeed to all those in the path of this storm.

ROFL - guess Shep's teleprompter broke.

It's time to find something that doesn't go to commercial every 3 minutes like TWC. Any suggestions?

ROFLMAO to your tagline!

What? You don't actually think that's Breaking News for anybody around here, do you?

I mean, if you doubt it, we could ask for a show of font.

ROFLMAO....I've been reading this ongoing thread since the beginning, and I've gotta tell ya', from one that appreciates dry wit, your post is the damn funniest thing I've read.

Shep clinging to a pole, feigning whipping winds was a close second.

Reporter on ABC 13 is talking like the fire is still going on now. The courthouse is not on fire, but the fire is in other areas.

FoxNews showing 'new video' of the fire. If MSNBC said it is out, they are misreporting.

19th & Post Office streets. Still engaged, per reporter, and fire trucks from nearby communities are on their way to the area.

Perhaps if the local and/or state folks in LA didn't spend the money they rec'd for levees for casions, fountains, etc., etc. they'd be in better shape.

That's absolutely correct, of course. But, being from the state, I assure you that most of the money provided made its way to friends of the politicians for fake work and studies and such who then provided kickbacks to the politicians.

I'm a few miles north of Beaumont. It's raining and windy now. I had almost forgotten what rain is like. It feels good. It's been a long hot summer. I'm going to miss electricity. If anything interesting happens here before our electricity fails, I'll post it.

The report I heard was from a Mr. Wilson who survived the fire. He was on a stretcher when they interviewed him. He said they had one flat tire, and DOT helped the driver fix it. He said after about 2 miles they heard another pop and then the fire. Mr. Wilson was trying to re-tell the story when a reporter interrupted him. As far as the driver going back into the bus I saw that on another clip from an article off of Google News. I will try to look through my history page and get that link.

I did not hear a report that there was a known problem with the brake when he continued after fixing the tire. I will admit though I haven't read or watched any follow-up reports for several hours regarding the bus fire.

Oakdale's 50 miles or so Northwest of Lake Charles, LA.

De Ridder is due North of Lake Charles, and Oakdale is East of De Ridder. That makes it 50 miles North East of Lake Charles or South West of Alexandria...

Fifty miles North West of Lake Charles is close to the Louisiana/Texas Border -- near the Sabine River...

My brand new, installed last week fridge? Yes.

And this smell is outside. And I'm not the only one who can smell it, either - another poster or two commented about the weird smell in the air.
