They just issued an inland hurricane warning for much of south FL. (Monroe and Miami- Dade). Other places are under TS warning and Hurricane Watch right now, but this may get upgraded.

Yeah, come to NM where two of Emperor Richardson's cronies, the former and current state treasurer are in jail accused of extortion. They were each indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts each of extorting more than $687,000 from an investment adviser in exchange for contract work from the Treasurer's Office. There is suspicion that some of the money went into King Bill's campaign funds.

You appear to know more then I about the elevation of refineries, and you are correct, flooding would just cause short term disruption, the major threat is to homes and business along the coast. Kinda like Katrina did to Ms/Al coast only lots more people here. Big worry for refineries is all the ships along the ship channel breaking loose, I think all that can get out to sea will do so to avoid that. Still to early to predict land fall. Often early predictions are way off.

"...he's mad, because he thinks Vice Admiral Thad Allen has crowned himself the Federal Mayor of New Orleans."

You're kidding?!

WTF did he think would happen when he asked for federal help?

Surely he's got to know they're not going to leave the same incompetent boob who caused all the confusion to remain in charge?

My brother was spending a few days in Marathon, doing some scuba dives.

He's not too worried but just to be on the safe side, he's leaving a day early and heading back to Fort Myers.

Well, he wasn't happy when he thought he didn't have help....and he's not happy now that he has more help than we can imagine.

Basically, he's just never satisfied. He acts more like a petulant teenager than the mayor of a major American city. It amazes me that these dimwits got elected to begin with.

You're smart to anticipate the worst.

Good point about the danger of loose ships and barges. Are you down there in Galveston or San Leon, or am I thinking of someone else?

Yeah, I have an Aunt who is a state rep there (a republican), so there is hope for the state. I graduated from Ruidoso HS and lived several other places in NM. It's really my favorite state. Just wish the politics could get cleaned up.

Rush just played the clip of W answering a question and saying that NO is not ready for the population to return. Mentioned Rita coming into the gulf -- final destination unknown.

Thanks;
yes I'm supposed to fly into Ft Myers, drive down, but there's no point in going if the weather is rainy and windy.

Doing automotive testing just east of Naples.

Galveston is a textbook case for a town fixing itSELF up after being destroyed by a major hurricane.

In marked contrast to the whiners and complainers a ways to the east...
