The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

No time to read everything but FEMA is here and helicopters are ferrying people from NO to LSU. Tent city going up on the track field. Families living in dorms with their kids, nowhere to put them. LSU and TUlane medical school are closed, trying to set up a med school in Baton Rouge. FEMA says Baton Rouge is now New Orleans. Tulane wants their students to come to LSU and decision on that is not made. Vet school doing something, don't know what. We are housing 300 people from FEMA and other fed agencies.

Everyone looks sad here.

There were a few of those, but it was founded (and paid for in the very highest currency) by men from all over the world. Germans, Brits, even Frenchmen.

That said, I think we should can the interstate rivalry. We *all* have other problems right now.

I really hope they come out carrying a looter in a body bag. God help me, I really do hope that.

Have they started evacuating the Superdome yet as we heard last night?

It's been happening for the last couple hours.

1:00 CDT press conference on 17th street levee breech...

Army Corp. has engineers out at levee now. They have filled the giant sandbags - currently attaching slings that will attach to helicopter. This afternoon, will begin dropping giant sandbags.

Also attempting to close the gap between lake and canal.

The lake level has equalized with the water in the city, which means no more flowing in except at high tide - one hide tide coming this evening.

Lake is receding at 1/2 inch per hour.

News conference on the breach: Water level in the city has pretty much equalized with that of the lake. Water is not rising in the city. Lake is down 2' since yesterday, and going down at a 1/2" an hour rate.

Been out doing errands for two hours...this is all anyone is talking about here (Central Florida)- everywhere I went I heard snatches of conversations...people driving to the coast to find relatives...people driving in convoys to bring help...people going out to gas up their cars..no matter where I went I heard people talking about it.

I seriously doubt the looters have more than the fuzziest concept of "tomorrow."

Soon they will be hanging them from the few street lights remaining.
With big signs saying "looter" attached.
