The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

WFAA: Dallas to open Reunion Arena to 1000+ refugees. Current refugees in rec centers to be moved there. Expecting overflow refugees, will most likely be housed in an unspecified Fort Worth facility.

There is a new thread that says that "angry and desparate looters" are raiding the Children's Hospital and terrorizing the staff with 100 patients locked in....

I can't believe it...they are characterizing the LOOTERS as the victims here!!!

Gotcha on the expression. The typed word isn't that great for confering the nuances between expressing frustration for the small percentage and shock for the sheer numbers.

I've always like Favre.. and Green Bay in general...

I know he's in a hard place - needing to be with his family - not being able to get there. He really does not sound like he expects special treatment .. talking about getting a truck and taking them supplies...

Emotionally this has me sad - that made me glad to see someone stepping up as a normal person... talking.. making sense...

WFAA: 85% of structures in Slidell destroyed.

Refugee children may register and attend DISD schools immediately, even without paperwork.

Looks like some parts of the US are decided on a policy of "help first, ask stupid questions later".

"Angry and desperate" is probably an accurate description. It's not painting them as "victims."

Yes... and I saw a report this morning that was unbelievable. The Superdome is completely surrounded by a "moat" of waist-deep+ water. There is no accessing it. And the refugees who have been brought to it, and come to it from their own wrecked homes are wandering around across the moat, not able to get to the shelter/food/water they'd heard was there.

Have they started evacuating the Superdome yet as we heard last night?

I can't imagine the last two nights there as conditions deteriorated. They will likely all get out today (news crews).

won't be the first time.
also, some of the same looting footage is repeated. if it were all new, NOLA would have about 2000 winn-dixies stores, one on each corner.
