The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

suspend the gas tax for 60 days or until these refineries are up to 75% capacity. Also, suspend dep concerns over various types of gas over the same time period.

They never tried to move a two kiloton barge with four guys and a runabout, though.

Agreed. While they are profoundly imperfect, I've long felt that the most redeeming characteristic of my Grand Wagoneer is it ability to move under its own power even when it has all kind of things wrong with it.

Which is a good thing, because they never, ever have nothing wrong with them.

It breaks on me a lot. But it never leaves me on the side of the road.

You do know why they call it a Grand Wagoneer, don't you? ;-)

What would be in those big tanks?

Either crude or refined oil products.

Has there been any word on the 7 people that decided to stay on Grand Isle? Have not heard a word about them.

The cost to produce a gallon of gas has not doubled in the last five years. But the retail price has doubled, even before this storm. Now the storm becomes another excuse for gouging even more.

I won't continue discussing matters with someone as ignorant as you seem to be. I don't suppose you've noticed the price of crude oil? Maybe you don't know gasoline is made from oil.

In any event, just blame it all on the evil Bush and his minions in the oil industry.

Either of those, especially the latter, make enormous sense. Let's eee if President Bush is man enough to try to push back at the environuts now. If not now, it never will.

Curious, all of those people that looted those stores for TVs, and computers and guns and stuff....what are they gonna do with those...if they get on the buses out of town??

I don't think they're going to leave. They'll stay and fight it out. They'll take over the town. Cops and firefighters will be afraid to go in. They'll burn the city down, eventually. Maybe it's just my active imagination, but I see dark times ahead in New Orleans. Sort of like "Escape From New York".

Exactly - there are boats and barges on the way down, but they're having to pick their way down and sound their course. They're coming, but it's going to take a while.

I'm not very comfortable with everybody mocking the Gov calling for prayer. This crisis is a stark reminder that we - all of us - are helpless without God.

Yes, she should be doing everything she can, and I don't think she's been forceful enough in coordinating the response. But I believe that everyone, everyday, should get on their knees and thank God for what they have, and ask his help in everything they do.

One of the definitions of sin is Man trying to be in charge of everything sans God. Many of you are suggesting that the Govenor should do that. I do not agree.
