The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

Oh, man! A hospital ship would be mighty handy about now.
I was in Andrew...and when his dad came down, he was bashed in the local media for "getting in the way."
Bush I > bashed for going to see the affected areas of Andrew.
Bush II > Bashed for not going to see (yet) the affected areas of Katrina.
I'll BUMP that. ;)
Thanks, Toots. Needed that chuckle.:)
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom.
Yea - where the USS Comfort?
I try to picture being in the superdome right now, and cannot.
But I do know and believe that the American people are the most incredible, wonderful, giving people on earth and that everyone who lost everything in NO will be helped, cared for and will rebuild.
That is how we do it in America.
And we always will.
We all FReep in our own, individual way. :-)
Not only succinct and astute in describing the corruption of Democratic politics in Louisiana, but it might be the line of the year regarding the Katrina disaster.
Will do. I'm here until 7pm.
LOLOL! Literally. :)
Sorry about that... I forgot all the great Canadian freepers and FD members who suffer just as much. :)
I guess we'll get the very end of Katrina tomorrow night, they say.
Oh no... they are reshowing the video of the poor man whose wife was swept away. I was crying along with the reporter last night.
Mike Cafferty of CNN just was on being interviewed by Wolfie. Cafferty asked Wolf, where is Bush. Wolf said he's cutting short his vacation to return to DC.
Cafferty said, "Oh, I just saw him in San Diego talking about the War and the economy. With his job approvals numbers the way they are, he'd better get back to work!"
I sent him him an email at Cafferty@CNN.com and told him not to politicize the situation.

We currently have offers of aid from Vladimir Purin, Hugo Chavez (Venezuala) and Iran, posibly others I have not seen. Iran said "America rebuilt Bam, Iran will rebuild New Orleans."
Wow. No kidding about Chavez and Iran? That's pretty amazing."
The reports were posted here.
On events of this magnitude, FOX sucks.
That is exactly what I have noticed about CNN -- great on breaking news. Usually my point to turn over is when Wolfie starts broadcasting. That usually signals the spin is about to happen.
Not a vial mouth. A satchel mouth.
Bush was trying to reach the mayor of NOLA via Air Force one....I suggest he STFU
Since the other thread was locked, I am replying here. When I last looked, the rain would be hitting just south of my house in NE Illinois. Sad... we are in a dreadful situation with regards to water. Like you said, even run-off to fill our riveers and lakes would be welcome.
