The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.
The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...
Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

"we" doesn't include me. I voted for Jindal and Foster either of whom would be a better person as Gov right now.
We suffer our incompetent leaders down here because usually things just rock along slowly getting better in places, worse in others. We tolerate them because usually inertia works pretty well.
I will predict, and I mean it, that the Gov will be reelected as will Mary. I am the first to say it,,.
Morning, folks. Won't say good, but it is another day.
It's nearly 7 am in NO now.
I hear that Jefferson parish declared martial law.
There are National Guard being deployed.
I read how they are going to sink a barge today to try to plug the hole in the levee today.
We will see what today brings. I pray that yesterday was the worst.
We need ARNOLD or ZELL MILLER!
Stolid and reassuring, even humorous or reassuring and fatherly. Take your pick.
Yes, I think so. They say they are trying to evacuate the Dome within 2 days.
Every time Orlando did that, I kept thinking if I was the camera person, in that storm, I'd have said BLEEP you.
I missed the sleeping Steve Harrigan. That would have been better than watching him holding onto a cable in 90 MPH winds and getting hit by debris.
BTW what's a Hookies?
Every time he is on I say "I love that guy!" even if no one is around.
I think the correct answer is that "If" the Mississippi flowed as it "used to", New Orleans probably would not even exist or would be some small town, not a metropolis. Most of the city is natural flood plain that has been protected for over a century by man made levies. The Mississippi, the life blood of the city, would likely be many miles away from New Orleans now since the "natural" way for that river is to change course and find new ways to the sea fairly regularly.
You are talking about the Corps of Engineers actually doing something that makes sense. They are infested with idiots. One of these leaking levies was just finished with much fanfare in the lat year. I could off had the hole plugged yesterday - 1,000 pound sandbags was a stupid waste of time.

Ditto your "morning". I have been glued to tv coverage.
NautiNurse - thanks for the threads.
Am sending prayers for the families and dollars to Salvation Army and Red Cross.
Answers from Army Corps of Engineers on unwatering New Orleans
11:28 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 30, 2005
wwltv.com
Q.1. How long will it take to get the water out of New Orleans?
A.1. We are unsure. A number of factors play into this. First, Lake Pontchartrain is at roughly 4.5 feet above sea level and falling. The city is at a lower elevation so water will continue to flow into it until it equalizes.
Once the breach on the 7th Street Canal is closed, Pump Station 6 can pump...(excerpt)
I'll pray with you. Others will too I know. But keep typing and looking for resources. I contacted a Canadian outfit like Home Depot (Canadian Tire) and asked them to donate generators as their donation to the flood relief. As soon as business opens this morning, I'll call their head office here and suggest that and give them Bayou_King's contact address and let them choose what to do. I'll keep looking through the yellow pages here for companies to appeal to for products that may help right now. The company that makes solar blankets, for instance, to put round people shivering from the water. But I'll keep praying while I do it.
She has no answers or information to supply at press conferences. She is a complete idiot. I cannot imagine what she is doing in a governor's mansion. She just rambles around and seems to fade off at times.
BTW, Hookie = Hokie
A Hokie just is.
>>>>any one watching whou live link?strange they showing Gov live chatting between interviews
More interviews after Larry King?
I saw a comment last night about sandbags not making it to the levee because there were conflicting orders about who was in charge.
WHO is in charge?
Still to be addressed is how to deal with the dead.
Stephens estimated that the death toll for his parish could reach the thousands.
WWLtv.com starting to show video from Slidell, NOW.
Uhmmm...not sure what to make of this...but this is an interesting thread:

You weren't dreaming. The Gov wants them out within two days, but last night Hizzoner told CNN it would be at least a week.
Stunning.
