The situation in New Orleans continues to deteriorate due to rising water levels and desperation. Search and rescue continues via boat and air. Authorities have announced the goal to evacuate all the remaining residents of NOLA. The New Orleans Mayor has reported numerous gas leaks throughout the city. Sporadic fires occurring. Attempts to evacuate hundreds of hospital patients from Charity Hospital and Tulane Medical Center are in process. Patients are being transported to other hospitals as far away as Florida.

The Army Corps of Engineers is at the NOLA levee breaks with current plans to drop 3000 lb sand bags in an effort to stop the flow of water. NOLA hospital evacuations continue for thousands of patients. Reports indicate all evacuees are being taken to the SuperDome, which is now surrounded by water. The generators at the Dome are now in jeopardy. The Governor of Louisiana has called for a day of prayer tomorrow...

Elsewhere, search and rescue continue in Mississippi and Alabama. Biloxi reports indicate catastrophic damage.

That would likely have been the 10 headed east out of NO. From what I understand, the 10 west out of New Orleans (at least if you start off far enough west) is still good at the moment.

The dementia of panic, one symptom is to repeat the same ineffectual action over and over.

Could it be that blacks are the majority in NO. That is why they are the looters. Same thing would happen here in Memphis, only because they are the majority, not because they are black.

Aaron Brown just asked some local expert what they would "find when the water recedes." RECEDES? Holy smoke. The guy stumbled a bit at that before trying to answer. Brown is clueless about all this and they give him a freaking network show.

Take it down? I am commenting on exactly what I see on the TV and that is a fact. You could argue that the news footage might be slanted in what they decide to photograph but you can't dispute the predominate race of the looters.

Neither can you dispute the predominate race that are living in this area either. If you've got, say 80% black people living in a place where 80% of the looters are black what exactly is the surprise?

"Deaths probably 200 or so. 500-1000 tops"

I pray your right - and no way the WTC, Pentagon, etc cost one trillion.

Did you see the reporter on CNN talking about how someone tried to steal the fuel cans they had tied to the top of their van?

Correct lets get a few facts on the ground here. The word that needs to be used is "disaster". When disasters happen plans often go out the window in the first hour. Thats reality folks. Look at Iraq everyone screams Bush didn't have a "plan". The facts the "plan" went out the window when the new realities hit. Thats just life. Whats not being reported since the networks don't even the resources to get people to report about Jeffeerson Parish for Gods sake is what went right. In spite of not much notice and because of improvemnets we learned from previous failed "plans" over a million people were evaced out of the in about 36 hours. Law enforcemnet from my area from all agencies were sent into immediate prestaging areas. How do think all those boats from wildlife and fisheries were there last night ion CNN. This is the largest Natural crisis in US history it appears. So to be honest this Governor as well as alot of hard working officials on the local level of both parties performed great deeds and are contuning to do so all over the state. Whats amazing is so much of the "plan" has worked.

But the Mayor of NO is a MAN!

Yeah - MAN in name only!!! He certainly doesn't exhibit the characteristic of the rest of the gender. I don't think I have to point out what is missing????? :))))

You need to pay attention to what has happened here. You really don't know what you are talking about - trust me.

I'm paying attention, and its awful. Do you think that the number of dead will rise to over 120,000???

She should have simply made a reimbursement agreement, it would have just been passed on to the fed cleanup bill, relatively small change. Yeah, I understand the ground staff, logistic, and weather issues, but they pulled out on Saturday, about 24 hours before the weather threshholds would require. At noon Sunday ithe sky was still clear as a bell in NOLA.

Poor Harvey Jackson is going to become the face of this disaster. That interview is being repeated on Fox and CNN many many times.

Anyone noticing the predominant ethnicity of those doing the looting. (ducking my head) I am watching CNN and they are taking anything and everything.

You can't say that. It'll get you in trouble. ;) I got called a racist.

the engineers that win the low bid to DESIGN INFRASTRUCTURE LIKE THIS can barely speak english.

Again... for the second time tonight, we agree. Many of the people who built the town did indeed speak FRENCH. Not gonna defend that.

Beyond that, your classless attempt at some racist angle on fingerpointing for the design of the city of New Orleans... as if, what... it was all illegal aliens that failed to PLAN to fix breaches in the levee? ...is just a little more than I really care to respond to.

Sorry sport... I've said my piece and I simply do not care to correspond further on the subject.

Be well. Good night to you.

Doing her best is not good enough here. Calling for a day of Prayer is not saving lives. And people are going to die because of her leadership.

We just disagree. Usually when people are not up to a challenge, I give them slack. But I can't give her slack now. Maybe later.
