If you or your family is in the path of Hurricane Katrina, if you would like to, please "sign in" here so that we can keep track of our people as this storm progresses, especially after the storm has passed.
Praying for all those in Louisiana; Missippi;Alabama and Florida who are in the path of Katrina.
Here's the latest map. The hurricane is making landfall so I zoomed in and the details are more visible. The hi-res reflectivity Radar from NSSL/U of Oklahoma dynamic data layer is broken this morning. Luckily, someone put together a dynamic data layer based upon images from the weather channel. It's not as pretty, it isn't radar but instead enhanced IR satellite images, but the key thing is that it is working. I hope the live radar comes back up this morning.
Excellent again, spiff!
Light rain here now, wind at 20mph, and gray skies:

Going to the office today bourbon or?
This Google Earth stuff is so new, but it has caught on like wildfire on the Internet, apparently, and we're seeing the servers get overloaded as so many people discover how incredible it is to use this to track a storm.
"Heh. The house has plenty of power, thank you."
GOOD!
I'm glad you finally checked in.
Stay safe!
"However, y'all have given me a good idea of what to do if it goes out. :-)"
LOL!
I'll be looking for news in late May. ;o)
Can you do me a favor and ping me to any updates you have on conditions in Hattiesburg?
I just finished my M.S. at USM and have friends that are still there, plus my cousin lives up in Seminary, so any news about what's going on in da 'Burg would be appreciated!
Thanks, and best wishes for you and your in-laws!
Beleive it or not, I am actually at my office in downtown Jackson.
Won't be here for much longer though.
The wind is really picking up now, and our office is closing.
Take good care of yourself,
and stay safe!

Thanks for the prayers. We appreciate them.
my folks live between laurel and collins, just off hwy 84. I've just lost contact with them. if anyone hears anything . . . . any news would be appreciated.
judging from the map, you're pretty close to my folks.
Although Katrina was downgraded to cat 3, roads in Biloxi and Mobile are completely under water and CNN is reporting extensive property damage in New Orleans. Brian Williams (NBC) reported earlier from behind locked doors in the Superdome. (Ordinarily I watch foxnews but seeing Bill Hemmer had me dashing for my remote.)
We left for Montgomery where we are staying in a hotel. I was able to contact our neighbor who stayed. Our house lost all the large oaks and received a foot or two of bayou water. She was not able to get around to see if they hit the house, bit at least the house is still standing.
Oh well we are alive.
So, it is TIME FOR A ROLL CALL. All gulf coast FReepers please check in if you can. Tell us your status and stay safe. Some of you are still in the path of this storm and some are probably in the thick of it right now.
Any news from family in N.O.? I've been praying Rosaries and remembering your loved ones with my other prayers for Askel5, Romulus and friends in Arabi and the Garden District and the nuns in Covington. Continuing prayers to Our Lady of Prompt Succour for everyone in LA and Miss. and Ala.
You are truly awesome and technology in your hands is an art of human love and prayer.
