Senate is scheduled to convene at 9:30 this morning. We had the cloture vote yesterday, and the vote for confirmation is scheduled for 5PM today, I believe. Dems still hoping they can defeat her. Not likely.

NOTE: It's reported today that members of the Congressional Black Caucus are going to march to the Senate today to protest her confirmation. Sisters, sisters......not!..Will they march into the Senate. Will they stage a "sit-in" in the well of the Senate? Will they burn their bras? Will they crowd around "Sheets" and lynch, er...hug him?

Might be a classic TV moment. Might not. BTW..have you all noticed that Cynthia McKiney has been near-invisible since she won her seat back? Wassupwitdat??? And even Mad Maxine Waters is silent. Do you think the House Dems finally realize they are out of power? To repeat one of my fave stats for your edification, "60% of House Dems have NEVER served in the majority"

Yesterday on the Senate floor..it was pretty quiet. More quorum calls than speeches. Everyone here was following the LA freeway mess, and/or the MJ trial. Hmm..could we have a verdict today?

Will John Kerry speak today? Will he raise the "DowningStreetMemo" on the Senate floor, or will he enter his college transcript into the record?

Frist may or may not show his hand today, and indicate what nominees he will call up next. IMHO, that will show if he wants to force the Dems to filabuster now, or wait for a SC vacancy. The Dems have some hard decisions to make.

And we may then see if he intends to revisit the Bolton nomination this week, via the "Motion to Reconsider". He's playing his cards very close to the vest. I think he'd like to make the Dems engage in multiple simultaneous filabusters.

Have any of you reassessed you opinion of his strategy since the compromise?

And lastly, may I have your indulgence to point out that last night, Pedro Martinez pitched a two-hitter; the Mets won again,.....and, AND, even better, the Yankees once again LOST. Could they go 1-11 on this road trip? Gawd, life is sweeeeeet.

JRB for CHIEF SCOTUS!:

Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

We no longer find slavery abhorrent. We embrace it. We demand more. Big government is not just the opiate of the masses. It is the opiate. The drug of choice for multinational corporations and single moms; for regulated industries and rugged Midwestern farmers and militant senior citizens.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

The quixotic desire to do good, be universally fair and make everybody happy is understandable. Indeed, the majority's zeal is more than a little endearing. There is only one problem with this approach. We are a court.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

Government is the only enterprise in the world which expands in size when its failures increase.
- CA Justice Janice Rogers Brown

The public school system is already so beleaguered by bureaucracy; so cowed by the demands of due process; so overwhelmed with faddish curricula that its educational purpose is almost an afterthought.

Wouldn't it be sweet if they looked up along their marching route and saw Judge Brown standing next to President Bush? :-)

Good morning all. Today is the greatest. My 6 year old son passed his bicycle riding and safety course yesterday and he's now ready for the BMX Challenge (he wishes). Brown gets her vote. Kerry may be trying to prove he really deserved the 4 D's. Bolton one step closer to being further filibustered but getting one step closer to a recess appointed. I know there is much more great things to happen today but that should work for now.

Okey-dokey, ken---

a few thoughts---I would LOVE to see a sit-in in the well of the Senate by the CBC---then I would like to see VP Cheney walk in, sit in the "big chair", and tell everyone that there will be a guest of his allowed on the floor for the duration of today's debate---in walks Janice Rogers Brown to just sit and watch how stupid the CBC are acting...

Also, I am ssssssssssooooooooooo happy the Yankees are tanking!!! We Ranger fans (George Bush's team, doncha know) love it when the Yankees lose....

Right now, Brown is done.

So is Pryor.

Frist needs to schedule the other held up judges pronto, and immediately thereafter Bolton - making certain everyone realizes the nuke is present, but only veiled for all of these.

Everyone in the Senate knows how they're going to vote on all of these by now. The reason for "extending debate" is to influence voters, and since the influencing process is done, it is time to get a votes up-or-down.

The WH ought to make such supporting comments, too.

Who is really out of the mainstream?

Senate Democrats are flailing. Senators Schumer, Boxer, Kennedy et. al. are beside themselves right now as the Senate marches towards a final up or down vote for Janice Rogers Brown this evening. The writing on the wall is becoming clear. First Owen, now Brown, next Pryor and more to come...Republicans are squeezing every last ounce of possible momentum out of the Senate filibuster deal and the left is not happy about it. As a result, their rhetoric on the Senate floor is becoming more and more desperate and irresponsible.

Yesterday, amidst Senate debate on Janice Rogers Brown, Senator Schumer attacked the 5th Circuit nominee for speeches she has given expressing her conservative views. He said, "I cannot think of a single nominee in at least my lifetime who is more out of the mainstream than Janice Rogers Brown."

Really Senator Schumer? Not one single nominee? I can think of a many...but for the sake of brevity, let's just talk about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ginsburg, who received her up or down vote in the Senate within weeks of her nomination was approved overwhelmingly by a bipartisan Senate. But she was anything but mainstream if we judge her by her expressed views:

Ginsburg had argued that statutory rape laws were sexist and outdated, and the age of consent for sexual activity should be lowered to age 12.

Ginsburg had advocated making all prisons and reformatories sex-integrated.

Ginsburg had argued that traditional marriage laws that prohibit polygamy were probably unconstitutional, because they “encroach impermissibly upon private relationships.” According to Ginsburg, the American people had no right to define marriage; if three, or four, or ten people wanted to get ‘married,’ the state had to let them do so and had to officially recognize their ‘marriage.’

Ginsburg had argued that there is a constitutional right to prostitution.

Ginsburg had argued that the Constitution requires that the federal government must use taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions.

Ginsburg had criticized the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as sexist institutions that “perpetuate stereotyped sex roles.”

Ginsburg had recommended forcing Big Brothers of America to change its name and purpose in order to prevent “sex-role stereotypes.”

Ginsburg had taken such a strident view of gender equality that she had actually argued that it would be discrimination if the government gave aid to mothers after the first few weeks of lactation.

This is mainstream? Hardly...and yet the Senate in 1993 allowed an up or down vote in which Republicans crossed the aisle to confirm Ginsburg. But today's Senate is poisoned by a determined minority intent on ideological litmus tests for judicial nominees. Fortunately for the judiciary, the Senate is now at long last confirming judges. Let's hope it continues to do so.

Hi ken!
Great point about the House minority. Lets go METS!

Missed the beginning of this stuff, just caught the last few seconds of "Soupy Sales" Feingold and now I'm watching Osama Obama argue against a black judicial appointment. Or is he explaining who he owes his political soul to?

I just faxed Senator Durbin this:

Via Fax: (202)228-0400 One of two pages
To: Senator Dick Durbin
From: Mrs.
Re: Judge Janice R. Brown
Date: June 8, 2005

Dear Senator Durbin,

I listened to you on CSPAN2 this morning and found your remarks about Judge Brown incorrect and misguided to say the least. Ms. Brown is amazingly candid and shows great intuitiveness about today’s over regulated government. Another point, everyone knows FDR’s social security was the first step into Socialism, which is a mainstream fact! To continue to harangue the lady with mendacious untruths, is not what my government is supposed to do, misinform the citizens by lying about nominees and smearing their good names.

No Matter which side of the isle your preference is, these are facts which we ought to ponder. We're traveling down a slippery slope. Truth is not always palatable but it is a better beacon to follow than fiction.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent "Trust" fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically-controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

A: The Democratic Party.

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the "tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

A: Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!

Very Truly Yours,

Copy any or all of this and send it to every one you know - the onbfuscating, socialist left is lying again. WE ARE THE PEOPLE - HEAR US ROAR!

Did you all notice how Teddy purposely had his black female aide closely and prominently behind him as he viciously attacked another black woman in his rant?

At one point he had her so close she could probably smell his breath, phew.

I wonder how this little black lady feels about being used as a prop by The Swimmer in his contempt for another of her race. But she's probably immune to it by now.

Of course, Kennedy has a history of using women.....Mary Jo Kopechne, his first wife, undoubtedly his well-connected second wife, the sandwich waitress.....

He is a disgusting slobbering wreck of a human being, which is why he appeals to liberals, I assume.

I mean no insult to actual human beings.
